Jacin's Poultry 2022

Pics
I'm not sure I'll find cheaper feed 😅. There isn't a local feed store that does poultry feed (all the money is in large animals here and it's a well known fact) and shiptons is more expensive for the same stuff.

I'll be shopping though anyways once weather gets better. Also looking into starting to do fodder for at least the penned birds occasionally
I would have to completely rethink having chickens if TSC was my only source for feed. They are high! I’ll run in there in pinch because it’s across town from my local feed store, but only out of necessity.

They're the only place within an hour of home that has chicken feed besides Wal-Mart

Do they have a chick starter? That would be better than waterfowl, I think.
(This never posted yesterday apparently, oops)
I believe they do have a chick starter. I was using Dumor chick starter crumble originally. The nutrient information from that was what I compared to the feed I switched to. After seeing nearly no difference between the two, I realized getting hung up on what the feed is called was less important than what is inside the bag.

I see that Ideal has expanded their catalog of breeds by leaps and bounds this year. I hope that’s not a bad thing. I’d be happier with less breeds and higher quality.
I personally only noticed 3 or 4 new breeds compared to last year. The black and red broilers, blue stars and brown stars (maybe).

But I also know I'm quite oblivious sometimes

I also got IDEAL'S catalogue.

Presentation: 9.5/10
Nice pictures, clear wording and pricing. Most birds no longer have clipped beaks in the images
Comprehensive: 7/10
Not every breed has adult pictures, and they're organized by price tiers, not by egg color or other similar traits.

I've been daydreaming over Ideal's website for years.

I agree that Blue Stars are fairly new, as are Olive Eggers, although Olive Eggers were there last year.

For several years, they've had Gold Sexlinks, Red Sexlinks, and Brown Sexlinks-- those all seem to be renamed as "Stars" instead of Sexlinks this year, but are otherwise not new.

I see that Norwegian Jaerhons are back. They were there in the past, missing for part of last year, now present again.

I don't pay must attention to the Broilers, so I'm not sure how recently the black and red ones were added.

I don't look at the Crested breeds very often, but I think they've added some new Polish colors over the years (red, black crested white, white crested blue).

Mostly, I see Ideal as having dropped many breeds that I was wishing to buy but they were gone by the time I would have been able to get them.

White & tinted eggs: I remember Spitzhaubens, 2 colors of Kraienkoppes, 2 colors of Cubalayas, and at least 5 colors of Hamburgs.

Brown eggs: I remember Red Chanteclers. I'm not sure whether any others are missing from this section.

Bantams, clean legs: I remember Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Black Sumatra, other colors of Cornish Bantams (Spangled and I think others), other colors of Old English Game Bantams (I bought Millie Fleur and Cream Buttercup colors, but I'm sure they have dropped more than just those two colors). A decade ago, they also had quite a few colors of Dutch bantams, and I'm not sure when those dropped off the list.

I don't like feathered feet, so I don't know what may be missing or added there.

Black and red broiler I know are new because they were waitlisted for 2022 last year when I was struggling to find what Big Boy was. He's the closest match and I'm just assuming it's him despite it's probably certainly not him

Checked Little Red Hen today, and she was definitely just a hen. No testes in sight. Mom was pretty bummed, I got to say 'I told you so'.

Still bummed we lost her, but she just never bounced back after brooding and this weather has been f*cking awful lately
