Jack is sick Swollen Face getting larger fast

Yesterday Jack had a nice long day outside in the new part of the yard I have fenced off. He was being a normal rooster. Today I noticed that they have been eating the ferns in my garden anfd I am not sure what else. I looked for poisenous plants and didnt find any that I know of. There may have been some mushrooms because it has been raining so much. But, anyway, his face was puffed up and his eye funny on the left side this morning. No other chickens sick. By tonight his other eye is puffy too, his comb and his face all puffy. Well I have been doing searches and decided to treat him for coryza with Sulmet (abr). He is curled up and sleeping. None of my chickens have had this before, but Jack was away for awhile and may have picked something up? I also gave him some garlic. I am pretty worried about him. He doesnt look so good. Anybody have any advice for me? Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hes getting worse by the minute .. does anyone know about coryza? He is having some trouble breathing and his eyes are watering now too.

maybe a baby benadryl for a allergic reaction to something he ate?? you think he ate something he is reacting too? or could he have gotten stung by some bee or hornet??? If he isn't breathing right sounds like he got into something he hasn't before. I'd be very careful about giving human meds to chickens. The weight and systems and all. He might just get better on his own.

Sorry about your bird. Can you completely isolate him from the other birds so that they dont get infected? He may remain a carrier for life.

He has a bloody spot on his comb too, just a point, could be a sting. But it is beginning to look like coryza but I dont know that much about coryza, just what Ive read on here when I was doing searches today.

I hope and pray when I wake up tomorrow he will still be with us. I think I am going to make him some oatmeal right now and put a night light in with him.

* It really does sound like an allergic reaction to something. You could give him a few drops of liquid children's benedryl. (Maybe 6 drops??) Keep in mind that it will likely make him dopey. SO- I wouldn't have him perching on a roost and keep him where you can check him. Hope this helps.

i hope the little guy is ok! if u saw a blood spot it could be a bee sting.. since its on the comp/wattles which is like getting stung in the eye.. same sort of iner tissue.. ouch.. if its hot to the tuch it could need to be iced a little at a time.. hope he makes it. best wishes
