Jack is sick Swollen Face getting larger fast

Thanks everyone for the responses. I did notice the eye that was swollen first is on the same side as the bloody spot on his comb. And the comb is hot. None of the other chickens look sick.

I looked through the links and symptom charts and diseases. The thing thata I noticed first was the swollen eye then the swollen face over the course of the day. His wattles are not swollen like it says for coryza; it is really more confusing the more I read. Each disease has a different treatment. I am trying a sulfa drug tonight and some garlic. I took his perch away

d.k. he already looks a bit loopy with the eyes. Is it safe to give chickens benadryl?

I keep waking him up and he is still "here" so

for the night through.

I gave him a little oatmeal with sour cream, which probably didnt help but at least I got him to eat something.

I try a little of the benedryl. It sounds like a total allergic reaction to me. Take it from someone with Auto immune hives.

A bump and a prayer from the left coast. My Delightful Dozen were out in the yard today - eeek, we have so many plants to choose from - allergic reactions would be devistating. My thoughts and prayers to you and yours.

Coryza is really really contagious. If that's what it is your other birds will start to show symptoms soon, and probably some would by now already. Sounds like an allergic thing to me, too, maybe a wasp sting? A horse I used to ride got stung or bitten by something once and we had to call the vet...animals can react to insect poison sometimes just like people. Maybe a vet's office would give you some advice on the phone, or sometimes TSC or a pet store will have someone knowledgeable; your state ag animal disease department or local college ag school will sometimes give you advice, also. Hope he's ok. Let us know if you find out.

I am glad to report that Jack is doing a little better today. His face is still swollen up but he can open his left eye now and his right eye is better than that. His mate that he is a constant companion with sneezed once this morning. There are no other signs with my other birds.

I will call our avian vet this afternoon and see what he says. I suppose I will continue with the garlic and sulmet. I do not know if that is what is helping or not.

I am just so happy that Jack looks better today. I will keep you updated.

Thank You

should I just take it away now and replace with plain water?

the vet is going to want to see him to diagnose that and I cant afford that
