I used old-fashioned snap trap mouse traps, set and positioned upside down on the kitchen counters to keep the doberman off the kitchen counters. With two little boys at the time, and all their buddies, dog hair on the couch was the least of it.
Dog had her bedtime routine. She lay all nice and asleep on her dog bed in the living room while we adults watched tv after the boys were in bed. After we went to bed, and we were really quiet for about ten minutes, click-click-click, we could hear her toenails clicking down the hall and into DS 's room and hop on his bed. In the morning, our alarm would go off, and click-click-click, dog back in the dog bed. Later as DS grew this was quite a sight: twin bed, six foot tall teen, large doberman hogging the whole bed with teen squished on the side...loved that dog.
