James Marie Pharaoh vs. American Pharaoh quail?

I was told it was 12 - but that he was going to send extra to try and make sure people get the most for their money. There is always the possibility of a broken egg in shipment, one that doesn't develop or that one hatches as a wild color brown instead of silver. Brown is dominate so its always a possibility.

I'm wrong. It is 15 eggs like you thought dc3085

The first one is a Bleu Tuxedo, the next two are junior silver and the last is adult plumage of a Silver. Now I'm trying to research the genetics on these. I found that if you cross silver with reds you can get lavender.
Thanks Cobb, that's fascinating. Which reds are you referring to? For some reason my brain gets stuck on Tennessee Reds but I know that's Bobwhites and not applicable.

Yes, he got the silver / blue line from a breeder in Canada. This is the only silver or blues that have been legally brought to the US. Being so rare, im sure they will be priced accordingly... He is taking orders now. Shipping should start mid April. Give him a call to order thou.... BTW, these also carry the Clean blue egg gene "Celadon" is what the color actually is. These are very rare.

I did not know about that. I hate to keep poking about for pictures, but can I see these eggs somewhere? I would love blue quail eggs. Wonder what color chicks are when they hatch. *sigh* I really want to order them right now (along with some jumbos, not sure which would be better - American Pharaoh or JMF Pharaoh), but the incubator I want will not be back in stock until late April.

I have heard that blue quail do produce a bluish color quail egg. But have not seen one yet myself. If I get some pictures I'll definitely share them with you

So far I have the American pharaoh and JMF Jumbo Pharaoh. I HIGHLY recommend going for the jumbo. They are only 2 weeks old and there is a huge difference in size. Can't wait till they are old enough to start pairing up and breeding.

The reds are Scarlet and Red Range. There are others out there like Rosetta, and Roux Dilute that I'm sure would make some interesting crosses.

If I found the correct information you get Roux dilute by crossing a red variety with Italian speckled. But really the genetics on these birds has been hard to find information on.

Robby posted these on another site. Every bird wont lay the celadon color eggs. But there is a chance.... Its rare and they carry the gene.....

Wow thank you for sharing the picture. He was telling me about the blue eggs and that he is hoping that everyone that buys from him will get at least one bird that lays these. But WOW. How do you breed for egg color?

I got a roux from that pairing, But I had no history on what the background genetics were on the two I crossed were, So i dont know how true it would breed. Robby sells pure Roux Dilutes, which is easier than fooling with crossings and genetics

Do you know how true to color any of them breed? I have a set of Italian Speckled eggs hatching any day now and would like an idea of how to pair them up. I was planning on putting a few Tibetans and Rosetta in with a male Italian just to see what I get.

The gene for the "celadon" egg is recessive, but seems to only attach itself to females of the species, which makes it's appearance pretty much random. Genetically I'm not entirely sure how this happens but, in time it may be possible to isolate it. Robby refers to it as a "drop mutation".
