Jan. 2022 Hatch-a-long

Here is Regal, he got bored in his incubator waiting for the last egg to hatch, I took him out, he has been sitting on my chest and eating crackers, and salmon, getting sips of egg water.

He likes me but doesn't want to be touched or picked up...

Last of the 2 chicks out. they will join 12 other New years day chicks.

I'm curious - is the rope in the hatcher there to stop the chicks from rolling the eggs around?

Yes, it keeps chicks from playing soccer with the unhatched eggs.

And this morning, see how her comb shrank down? You cannot tell if a chick is M or F, at hatch sometimes...

I put Regal and Reggae with the New years hatch chicks. I though I had put 3 eggs in incubator for Jan. 2 and one green egg was a dud so I had tossed it. (Or so I thought.) I wanted to take a pic of my 10 eggs for Jan.11 and went to take a picture of them, and found this...

The first 18 days I hatch with out water, so this chick didn't get water for lockdown and was left in the turner.
She is a Ayam Cemani-California white/EE

Wow...but what a nice surprise!

Thanks for the info re the rope in the hatcher - drives me batty when hatchlings start unhatched egg soccer.

These are what's left for my Jan. 11 eggs. About 3 were from a grocery store fridge, they were selling them for a little local girl. (greenish ones.) (Mine hen's eggs are the blue gray and brown/tan.)

They should hatch all on the same day. I have one more egg in with these, from my hens. I am suspecting may be a Jan. 2 late hatcher, but we will see. It may just have a low slung air cell.

They are PRECIOUS! We’re they refrigerated when you got them? I have a local farm stand I can get refrigerated (fertile) eating eggs that I was debating on trying to set!

Yes they were from a fridge, but they were fresh, and if you get fridge eggs, that you know are fertile, candle them first to make sure the air cell is very small.
