Jan. 21st hatch day! I have chicks! Pics Added pg 12!

I work part time so can at least spend half a day with the baby, on a lighter note I have ordered 4 more silkie eggs and 6 quail eggs that I'm hoping to get next week so it'll be starting all over again!

Well, I've got two peeps so far.

The one from this morning was attacked by another hen who was trying to sneak her own egg into the nest while momma was off. Luckily, I was there and saw her doing it. She must have heard the peeping and started pecking at the egg. It was all broken and I could see the chick inside. It's still alive, 5 hours later, but still needs to absorb the rest of the yolk sac. I have it in the brooder, mostly out of the egg, but some under it where the yolk is resting. I have a warm wet washcloth around it so it doesn't all dry out. Hope it makes it!

Just been an hour or so since I went out and checked to find a 2nd peeper. No pip yet, though. Momma is sitting tight on the nest now, though. I think the other hen scared her into not leaving anymore... hopefully. I know, I should have separated the broody from the rest of the flock. Next time, I will for sure!

Just waiting, sitting on my hands till the rest hatch!

I got home from work today to find one chick

and 3 pips!!! and tomorrow is day 21!

Here's hoping for healthy hatching!

Well it's pretty much day 21 and no sign of life. I have a really bad feeling that none of them are going to hatch. I guess I'll know for sure over the next couple of days.

Well, the chick whose egg was attacked by the other hen died this morning. I thought it was doing well last night, but I guess I was wrong...

but the good news is, #2 is starting to zip! Nothing yet from the other eggs...

Oh my gosh, my heart just melted! I was standing in my quiet room and I could hear the little one peeping! I am going to go nuts waiting for this little one to hatch!
