Jan. 21st hatch day! I have chicks! Pics Added pg 12!

Well I pulled egg 14 because it was still clear and cracked it open. No development at all. I believe it wasn't fertile so it never had a chance. I candled another random 4 and the eggs were almost solid black except for the air cell! I don't think I am going to candle anymore since the eggs are so dark to begin with. I'll just lockdown in 4 days and cross my fingers for a great hatch!

Oh thats good news! Luckily (kinda) my rooster can't "do his job" so I'm safe from staggered hatches for the time being. Mine are hatching on the 29th! They are EEs, BAs, and BRs. They are shipped, so a ton are probably duds. :C

Good luck everyone!

EDIT: Sorry about your BCMs! I would like to have some , but they are so dark it's hard to candle them, probably. I can hardly candle my mid-olive egg! :C I hope they hatch okay!

Yes they are really hard to candle, can't see much just keeping track of how the darkness is slowly taking over the entire egg!

I candled last night and 6 of 9 appear to be progressing well. Unfortunately the 3 that are not are the whole reason I was doing this hatch. I lost a hen to a hawk on Christmas Eve and wanted to hatch her last three eggs

One has a blood ring and the other two are clear. I'll probably leave them in until lockdown and then take them out.

My last hatch ended up with 3 chicks out of 9 eggs... I'm really hoping for more than 3

I've found that it's easier to candle if you hold the flashlight sideways in one hand and put the light up to the air sac end of the egg rather than setting the egg over the flashlight to look from the side. More light gets in and you can see veins and movement a whole lot better.

Well today at 9:30 am CST is Lockdown!!!!!

I can't believe I am only a few days away from hatching! I thought the first couple of days was bad. Man I am a wreck right now. I have 1 hour to decide if I'm going to hatch in cartons or just leave them on their sides. I don't know what to do!!!!

I am so bad at making decisions!

I put some eggs in on the first also, and I'm just wanting to check my math... wouldn't it mean that tomorrow morning is the 18th day? I just don't want to do my lockdown a day late! This is my first time hatching

Congrats! Lockdown is very stressful, but exciting once you start hearing the eggs peep. Keep your hands out of that bator!!!!! (it's soooooo hard to do)
