Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

just Saw that you have had movement! :D
make sure it is when you hold the egg completely still and it's not sloshing from turning or moving the egg.
if it's moving, it's alive!!! c'mon babies!!

I take the lid off for about 10 minutes per day as part of a new daily cooling thing I'm trying, so I don't believe any harm will come as long as your house is reasonably warm (70-75F?) and it isn't "shocking" temp drop. The eggs themselves actually generate heat from within at this stage as well...
Yes, we saw movement and no I hold the egg perfectly still and wait for that little jump, I realize with my last batch at this stage they don't bounce around like they did even a few days ago..I just checked about half and I do believe I have some quitters... I am afraid to ditch them just yet, I'll check again tomorrow night to be sure.

Ok, here are a couple pics, same eggs...

Air cell visable.. No worries here...

Skinny end of egg....All that I candled are like this...

This one is the skinny side. With the exception of the very very tip, its completely dark.

The air sac just for comparison.

I hope this helps...
I have seen some crazy things hatching eggs.. Your little one may just be late.

Yes, my last hatch was completely dark...Grrr.. What went wrong? Everything was so much more stable this time and I had so much more confidence!! That's the problem, I wasn't worrying my fool head off about it every 5 seconds!!

HHHMMMM.. could be several things. First things that comes to my mind is... shipped eggs? young laying hen??

No, not shipped, picked up... Hens in good shape, My hens are in good shape also and some of my eggs look the same.. The only thing I can think of is my bator says temp 101-102 and humidity 45-50 up until day 18.. Ive run it about a degree cooler but spot on with humidity.

Oh my gosh it is so cold here tonight and the wind is blowing so hard that we have huge drifts forming across our yard and pasture and not gusting wind steady strong winds from 35 to 45 miles per hour I feel bad that I am making the flock rough it in the coop but taking them back and forth between the coop and the garage is getting old. Just went and checked on them they all seem pretty content and just in case I threw them some popcorn lol. supposed to have a low of -20 tomorrow and a high of -5. Glad I am safe and warm in my house and have some time to candle my eggs this is my first hatch so very excited to see them moving for the first time today we are at day 14 12 and but 3 dozen more in yesterday lol I am so bad.
