Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

There are lots of birds that are purebred but don't meet the standard. Even when breeding tufted to tufted Araucanas you will get untufted because each parent only carries 1 tufted gene, it just results in way more lethal double genes that way. That doesn't mean that the untufted birds are not pure Araucana. It just means they are not show quality.
The same goes for off color Ameraucanas. They are still pure Ameraucanas, but not show quality because of coloring. Most classify them as EE.
That's what I said.

Better than what's on currently in theatres... how do I post movies???
I now have 8 in the brooder, (and they are a rainbow of flavors too.... and 8 more currently pipped and in progress. Had two expire on me mid shell break last night for some reason... so that was disappointing, but got my first YELLOW chickie out of a Cali White egg this AM too...
Are there any pictures, or places to go to see what the different crosses look like? Are these going to go along sex link lines?? Females will look like mom, Males like the dad? Interested to know!

California whites are crosses but not sexlinked. Offspring will not be sexlinked.

A lot of people don't know the difference. All of my EEs have be sold to me as either Araucanas or Ameraucanas. Araucanas do not have tails and they have tufts. There are other things but these are the easiest things to see. Ameraucans have tails, beards and muffs. Both have very specific colors and they both lay blue eggs unless mixed. EEs are a mix of one of these and anything else. That is why their eggs can be any color. EEs are wonderful chickens. I am guessing your rooster is mixed with a Wheaton or Brown Red Ameraucana. Here is the Ameraucana website. http://www.ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html
You're right, Arlo does look like he is crossed with one of those two. I've thought his hen was Wheaton but she has black on some feathers too. I'm not too picky about breeds, as my flock started out as a couple of backyard mutts that were at least 4th generation of backyard mutts.. But it's fun to try and pick out what breeds they could be. Thank you for the link! Very useful!

I am a single Red Bourbon tom looking for his forever hen. Somewhere in the area of Tuscaloosa or Bessemer. I am 5 months old, I like older hens as well as younger. I enjoy chasing the guineas, hanging with the chickens and watching TV from 2" away from the screen. My favorite foods are chocolate ice cream, all pizza, vienna weenies and my dinosaur gummi vitamins. If you are my mate, you will never become anyones dinner. Must be healthy. No TTDs (turkey transmitted diseases). Friendly disposition is a must.

Max is sure to attract a nice mate for himself. He's so good looking and got a great personality! It really makes me miss my female turkey, Lulu. She wasn't a house turkey, but she was friendly. She loved head rubs!

Thanks I am trying to stay positive but it is hard We have three incubators so I can almost set new eggs every weekend lol my next set is due in 9 days and I upped the tempt to 102 and have been trying to keep the humidity at 20percent then there is another batch due 7 days after that one. I appreciate the support everyone gave me and will keep everyone posted I am also on the Feb. Hatch along.
I was trying to follow your posts but there were over 60 when I got on.
I am sad to hear you lost the chicks but don't despair - I was where you are now and I did lose a lot of chicks from shrink wrap - it is the crulest thing ever. - !

We got live chicks on DAY 27 / and 28 years back both had to be helped and both were very weak and took a long time to develope but in the end turned into two beautiful Roos.
Apparently Maran chicks tend to hatch later and a number of folk have had them hatch on day 26. My Day 28 was Maran. So it also depends on the breed I think too if they go over time.

I am keeping the humidity up in my Bator at the moment trying not to get shrink wrap this time. We have 5 PR eggs on day 20 here fingers crossed. Like you we lost the lot last yeat! Learning curve is the only way to look at it.

I say God created so many eggs for idiots like us to try and hatch them!

Good luck next time

Oes

I am in Ireland too far - my eggs get scrambled comming from the mainland - thats why I had such a bad hatch last year - this year the PR eggs are from 5 min walk away! If they are scrambled it is the BILs fault -lol

Oes - My Hubby would ban me from a turkey in the house except if it was in the oven! He is already making noises about caroline being perminently in the dinning room. She is my sick hen!

My bators are all empty at the moment but will be filling back up soon. My girls finally decided the strike was over & a friend is sending me eggs to do a fertility check on.
