Good Morning,

Checking in now because I am not sure how long we may have electricity.
We have a blizzard warning.............Good Grief, I thought we had made it past bad weather this year.
I had a violet bloom about a week ago and buds on the roses.......
Do not need to tell you I am frantic with fear about my eggs and some month old chicks.
We do have a fire place............ Also a full basement....maybe that would stay warm enough
for the older chicks.............

Good luck to everyone hatching...............and big hugs to anyone that lost chicks...............

One more thing, Deanna, Thank you for the great laugh I got from Max's ad this morning......
I really needed that.......He is soooooooooooooo handsome............

If power goes out, I have found the best way to keep chicks warm is to put them in boxes small enough to allow them to huddle together & use body heat to keep warm. You can also toss blankets over your brooder if no boxes are available.

Sally Sunshine also suggested filling pop or water bottles with hot/warm water if you have a way to heat the water.

So last night my power went out for 3-5 hours. I have a Brinsea Mini Advance uninsulated and it was overnight so my house was only 60*F. I had no idea it even happened until I woke up and saw the "P" on the display....

Should this be a big issue? I would think that it wouldn't but I am just trying to know if it will effect my hatch at all.

9 days until hatch.

They will be fine. Power went out on my last hatch at leadt 4 times with temps down near 50°F at least 2 of the times. Mine still had a decent hatch.

I'm hearing chirps in my bator. Can't see a pip yet, but it's loud. Wondering if it's pipped on the side I can't see, or close to the bottom. Glad their is some action going on though. :) EE's and Olive Eggers.

I was trying to follow your posts but there were over 60 when I got on.
I am sad to hear you lost the chicks but don't despair - I was where you are now and I did lose a lot of chicks from shrink wrap - it is the crulest thing ever. - !

We got live chicks on DAY 27 / and 28 years back both had to be helped and both were very weak and took a long time to develope but in the end turned into two beautiful Roos.
Apparently Maran chicks tend to hatch later and a number of folk have had them hatch on day 26. My Day 28 was Maran. So it also depends on the breed I think too if they go over time.

I am keeping the humidity up in my Bator at the moment trying not to get shrink wrap this time. We have 5 PR eggs on day 20 here fingers crossed. Like you we lost the lot last yeat! Learning curve is the only way to look at it.

I say God created so many eggs for idiots like us to try and hatch them!

Good luck next time

Oes

Thanks for your kind words my daughter is very upset with me right now she thinks I killed them, She says I am not allowed to touch the next batch at all. (Big Sigh) I am glad I had already started the next two batches because other wise I am not sure I would have started another one the disappointment is so bad. But we will keep trying I want to set up a web cam on my eggs so I can check on them from work. I have both Bantam EE eggs and maran eggs in the next batch lol and I put them in over a two day period I have candled them alot look good the marans are hard to tell on though a few I defintly see dark blobs I figure I will candle again on day 18 and then leave them be until they hatch if they hatch. They are at day 12 right now so more then half way there.
