I know, I showed my hubby too, even though we don't have ducks. They are like little kids.

But this is, she is do to hatch 3-4 eggs on the 18th of february![]()
I have used bleach water to clean my styro 'bator and it worked fine. Not straight bleach...I didn't like how strong it was. I've also used an antibacterial spray made from oregano oils and the next it in the sun for a couple of hours to dry. Any of those things worked for me.

could your eggs have been exposed to some extreme weather?
Wondering if freezing partially without cracking the shell will break the yolk?I sit my base in the tub, squirt in a bit of dishsoap & a dab of bleach (white vinegar also works), run the shower over it as hot as possible, let it soak for an hour or sp & then rinse. Make sure to let it air dry for a day or 2 but to make sure the chickens can't get to it. Chickens eat styrofoam. For the lid, wipe down with bleach water or vinegar water & allow to dry. What is the best way to clean a styrofoam incubator? I have heard that people use bleach but that seems like it would be to harsh on the styrofoam.
Thanks.
I laid the eggs down today and stopped the turner. I tried to up the humidity with sponges and a washcloth, not sure how successful I was. It is a tight fit for all those eggs. To keep up the humidity I am going to need to add water to the sponges, and to do that I have to open the incubator while it is in lockdown. Does anyone else have this problem? There is no way to add water through the vent or any other way.![]()
Good morning everyone,
Thank you for all the helpful hints with my hatch yesterday....................![]()
TEAM WORK....................![]()
Heidisgran, the heating pad did it.............
I almost killed the last one. Decided to candle and float test.....put the eggs in warm water
and one started moving like crazy. Picked it up to discover it had pipped...........
Pretty big hole with the beak out..grrrrrrrrrrrr quickly removed more of the shell and turned it to let the water out of the egg.
Without going into more detail, the little bugger hatched and is happily integrated with the other chicks this morning......
My Am's go into lockdown today........not decided how I am going to do this since the hatcher bit the bullet.
I have a staggered hatch.............final count 9 healthy chicks...........
Now to catch up on the thread................![]()
I had to do this w/ my brinsea also, I just did it as quickly as I could, I think if the eggs aren't externally pipped yet you're ok. I ended up adding water about everyother day I think? there is a really good thread on the brinsea octagon 20 that goes over ways to up the humidity nicely.I laid the eggs down today and stopped the turner.
