Back in the hatching game! I set the following over the last 2 days:
36 Rainbow Layers
12 Ancona Ducks
4 Polish (likely to be crested EE)
1 Turkey (looks like a Palm)

I have a 2nd bator waiting to fill with eggs from a friend needing a fertility check done.

Little update from here.

Sorry to say after the eggtopsy we discovered that none of the eggs had any chicks in. The eggs were just "eggs" so it looks like none were fertile after all that!
Rooo boy looks like he is firing blanks.

The other bit of sad news is - some of you know we had our wee caroline in the dinning room as she was ill. It was a bit of a joke in that she was "nearer the oven" as DH put it!
Well I went to feed her this morning and she had died in the night. I am a bit upset right now as she was one of my orriginal 6 birds. - She would have been 6 yrs old this year.

So I guess that is the end of the hatching here for a month or so untill we feel like trying again. Which of course we will do!

Oes

I have 54 duck eggs in a hova bator 1588 and 34 chicken eggs in a still air incubator, I also have an egg turner for the 1588 and would like to use it so I don't have to turn so many eggs.
But the egg turner only holds 41 eggs so I would have to put the extras in the still air Incubator.
Should I put the extra duck eggs in the still air incubator or would that mess them up since it is 2 degrees warmer than the 1588?

Well I let the egg go until this morning And when I got home it was out. So on our first time hatching we got 8 of 9. Out of a cooler my son found in the creek and parts I had in the garage. Not bad. Thanks to everyone for helping us through this adventure. I will post some pics in a little while.

The temp difference is because 1 is still air & the other has a fan. It evens back out so that there is rrally no difference in the temps. Personally, I would put all the ducks in the still air. They need a bit higher humidity, especially during hatch, & a fan tends to dry them out & cause shrink wrap since they take so long to go from pip to hatch. I would take the few extra seconds to hand turn a few more eggs to get a better hatch rate, but that's me. I hand turn all of mine & usually have 3 bators going at once.
