I hope you get back to your farm soon so you can check it out. Im sure your anxious to see whats going on over there. I know we all cant wait to hear whats going on also.

Can I join? Our rooster was killed by a hawk so we decided to try to hatch out some of his eggs. We are on day 17, lockdown tomorrow! We only have two eggs left, one looks healthy and good the other is questionable

. I'm getting so nervous now! This is my first time incubating and we are using a homemade, extremely crappy, styrofoam cooler. We've delt with extreme temp fluctuations and have to get up frequently through out the night to add or remove blankets from the incubator top. Ugh! I want this to be over! If they hatch they will be barred rock/rir crosses. There is a sligh cance one might be a barred rock/Wyandotte but I'm not sure.

Oh Yes, Welcome!

Sorry about your loss. It would be great if you can have a part of him in his offsprings with you. I will be rooting for you.

Make sure you are not covering any of the air holes with the blanket. Eggs and chicks need lot of fresh air.

I have several homemade incubators from coolers. If you add a 110V fan and a temp control unit, they work great. You do have to keep them in a draft free area. Sometimes there is a draft you are unaware of. You could set the incubator in a larger box. Make sure there is room around it for air to get in the air holes. I had mine on the floor in my room on the far side of my bed. Even thou the AC floor vent was across the room, it caused a draft going under the night stand and under the bed. I moved it to the family room and when people would stop by they would turn on the ceiling light, which turns on the ceiling fan. I don't know why people turn on lights during the day but they do. I stopped letting people come over. Problem solved.

Good luck.

Im gonna have to join this hatchalong! I just set some eggs last night. 9 ameraucanas, 8 marans, and 7 silkie x amer or marans mixes

I've had the Ameraucana mixed with the silkie before. Very pretty white girl. She lays very blue eggs. She looks more like an Ameraucna than a Silkie, and got bigger than I thought she would. A friend has her now, or I would post a photo. Very pretty though.
