I have a young silkie roo, if his foster dad would let him cover some of my EE's I would be a happy camper to see what develops...Next batch of chicks I incubate I am going to try and get some Marans and olive eggers, I want my egg carton to have all the colors :)
Good Luck!!

This is our first time ever :) just put our eggs in the bator today. Fingers crossed couple questions though we have a still air incubator humidity is about 27 percent temp is staying about 100.0 will this work or should I adjust something. Tried to candle the eggs but think our flashlights are not bright enough can't see the air sacks. Is that something I should be able to see right away? We have a few incubators and will hopefully be getting some Rhodebar eggs in the next couple days and will be putting them in a different incubator. the first eggs are a barnyard mix from a local farmer. One seemed to have a slight crack but it was the only olive egg of the bunch so we put clear nail polish on it. Fingers are crossed we are able to hatch some out. :)

101F is the best temperature for still air. 27% is good, sounds like you're doing a dry hatch yippee!!!

Your humidity goal is between 25-45%. Make sure you have 2 hygrometers, as the one attached to the storebought incubators are classically wrong (mine is 20% and 10 degrees off)

Maybe if your flashlight is bigger than the air cell (it's small at first), then you won't be able to see it. Try 2 methods:

1 hold the flashlight upright in your hand and lay the egg lengthwise across it, you should see an air line at the big end, a dark yolk (and maybe an eye+veins) in the middle, and clear toward the small end of the egg.
2 lay the flashlight on a table, and put the big end of the egg against it. this is how I pencil the air cells, so I don't drop it

Ok be careful :) I think I would not take the risk to my other eggs and I would toss the cracked one, unless very very expensive and/or irreplaceable

Good luck and welcome!!!

I could be from a Marans, since they do lay dark brown eggs. A few other breeds do also. If the dark egg hatches the chick from that egg may not lay dark eggs though if a Marans rooster didn't fertilize the egg..
