Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Quote:
I have a little girl that hatched with her back toes up under her foot...and due to walking funny (even though we tried booting her) she now has a splayed leg...she's eating and drinking...gets herself around so we just call her our special needs baby...she'll figure it all out. she's about 3 weeks old now

my little special needs girl is really withering this morning....so sad she fought so hard but her neck bone is really deformed too...I'll just keep her with me today so she feels safe...
I went out and found my little 6 week old frizzle dead...that breaks my heart DANG!!

Sorry to hear about both of your chickren. I told my wife when things like this happen, I am not sure that I am cut out to be a chicken farmer.

Oh I am so sorry....DH put one of the chicks down last night and this morning there is another with a slipped tendon, I was hoping it was just weak and needed time, I put two of them by themselves and the other one if up and running, the Welsummer chick is not, its so sad to watch it try and get around!!

the special girl is in the brooder acting normal right now....eating and drinking...I do feel bad to see her little leg like that but she can just hang with us if she survives

Ours couldn't even get its head up enough to get to the feed and water let alone get its self over there....Dh took care of it for me, I hate to see them suffer and struggle so much...

10 survived out of the 25 that made it to lockdown... Opened up the last 8 or 9 last night...I almost wonder if the humidity at the end didn't kill them...Next time I incubate I'm going with 25-35 during day 1-18 and 50-55 during lockdown... I almost want to try it now but DH says I need a break lol

One of my duds hatch during the night, so maybe the rest will hatch today. Brought her in and the bigger chicks are taking care of her. Yeah!!!

I can see darks spots in the air cell of my duck eggs and the air cell has shifted. Does this mean that there has been an internal pip?
Also, is it normal for ducks and chickens to pip a few days before the hatch? Even a day before lockdown?
Thanks.

especially ducks

Ducks often pip internally day 25-27, pip externally 24 hrs later, begin to zip another 24 hrs later & you finally have a hatched baby by 3 days after internal pip. They like to take their sweet time. DO NOT TRY TO HELP EARLY!!!
