Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Done it all, anything for a good hatch. Works best if you do the fertility dance without clothes. Makes you more at one with nature. Thats what the guy next door told me.

To funny you two.........

I candled all my eggs yesterday the Rhodebar I set on tuesday are still all clear I candled them in the bator as some had detached air sacks, I am hoping that come this time next week I will start to see signs of life is there any way of knowing whether or not they were even fertile from the beginning? I am scared I may have bought a dozen infertile eggs off ebay????

As for my barnyard mix eggs from the local farmer they are all showing excellent growth with even little black dots (I believe those are eye balls) showing I am so excited as are my kiddos all though not near as excited as I am. My youngest keeps saying ok so they should hatch tomorrow then right mom lol.

It is so hard to keep my hands off them and not candle them everyday this is so addictive.

We did a float test, one sank, air cell up. The other floated air cell up (only air cell above water). I was too worried to let the water settle enough to see movement. Maybe I'll put my balls on and try it again tonight with the more promising egg, giving the water enough time to settle to see if I see movement. Eggtopsy the sinker? Or maybe hope the test isn't accurate and give it more time?
Did the float test and all of the remaining eggs are floating and bobbling round. My question is they are ob day 29 heard its happened before, but im not quite sure. Also our one egg on day six hasnt hatched, but under broodys they hatch late so im so confused. Are they dead im not upset if the are because our broodys has three healthy chicks and thats enough. She still is on those eggs. One determined silkie.

Well today @ 5 pm is the supposed to be start of my lock down I have 2 sets of eggs 2 days apart so instead of uping humidity today I will for it Sunday at 5pm just candled my 45 eggs and for sure 44 are doing great ones kinda questionable no odors do I'm going to let it ride it out I'm praying to the chicken gods and goddesses for a good hatch since this is my first time incubating I'm going to throw some corn in the yard tmrw and maybe do a chickendance iI'm sure my neighbors will love that :)

did you for sure set all her eggs on the same day, or is there a chance her eggs are from different days and might just take longer? if she is staying on them that is a good sign... my broody would have been off the nest by now!

floating means that there is enough air in the egg to keep the weight of the chick up. that means there is a developed air cell and developed chick in it, most likely. whether the chick is developed and alive, or developed and somehow died, the only way to know is if you wait long enough to see the water become very still and see the egg move/wiggle in the water. Have you candled & tapped on the egg? sometimes tapping the egg they will chirp back?

if it sinks, it means the air cell is too small to float the weight, it has still liquid inside which weighs it down, so most likely it died earlier.

alright i didnt give the water time to settle they were just bobbling around maybe some eggs are younger than other idk anyhow her chicks are so cute she lets me hold them with a stern eye. Such a good ma.The eggs i candled still are all dark even the one six days behind i just dont get it. Ill try tapping the egg but it probably will be dead silent.

Here's a pic of my batch. I set them late last night. I might add a couple more if I get some nice looking dark eggs today. Gosh I hate how the flash washes out the color.

I would trust her, since she is staying on the nest, and just wait longer :) I'm hoping that they were just laid a little bit behind...

I hatched some of your marans and wellies a few months back, the color on the Marans eggs was PARTICULARLY impressive, there is nothing like actually seeing it in person!
