Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Some of my Easter Eggers have great beards but they have been picking out or scratching out their feathers. I have read this can be a problem with EE. None of the others. One is only missing one side of her beard. I looked and didn't see any mites or bugs. I cleaned and put vaseline on but I don't know if it helped.

My one little lonely egg didn't make it. :( Out of so many, I was sure hoping. It had so much fluid in it from the beginning.

so sorry Cynthia........................

Max and I went out, braving the cold, hunting for the only Chick Stater my chickens like. What a fiasco, again. SO frustrating. On the way home, we stopped at Home Depot to buy the last few bits for the new coop and we saw the clearance lumber cart. Now we have enough to build a few more pens. Woo hoo!

We also went to check the oops paint as usual. We asked about Rustoleum being on sale, they said never. As I was leaving the paint area I saw this-

Holiday Rusoleum. On sale for $3 for 2 cans. We bought all 4 boxes. Woo hoo again! I turned to the lady and said 'This is on clearance'. She said 'yeah but it's silver and gold sparkle. You don't want that I'm sure'. Ha, she doesn't know me, obviously. My hens are going to lay their eggs in golden nest boxes. I'm sure they will stay humble. But I will have to make them all little crowns. Max will be the only guy with a crown of course.

I'm still new to this site but I just have to tell you that I LOVE your Max pictures and stories. He is some radiant humble turkey! =)

Well out of 30 eggs. Today 14 days check I end up with 24. But they are all moving inside.

That is the hardest week. And then at lock down I am stuck to the glass. Lol. I just love this hatching thing. Haven't had a broody yet though. Three years and no broody. Lir's

I did the same thing. Get yourself a little bantam cochin. They are great broody girls. Also, had a bantam Favorelle go broody this past summer. She was great!

BUT ~ THIS GIRL IS WHAT STARTED ME HATCHING! SHE FLIPPED OUT WHEN THEY
STARTED HATCHING, I HAD BEEN TOLD TO HAVE A BACK UP BATOR, HAD BOUGHT
A CHEPO..HAD TO TAKE THE EGGS IN WHEN SHE LEFT THE NEST, AND WHALLAH!
I HATCH..AND HATCH. THIS IS A BLUE LACE WYONDOTTE. THEY ARE USUALLY
GOOD AT HATCHING, BUT SHE LEFT WHEN THEY STARTED TO PIP, AND NEVER RETURNED
TO THE NEST. WHAT??

Here is one of my little bantam cochin moms. Really good moms. :)

Putting some German New Hampshire's in the bator tomorrow!!! Got it warming up...woohooo, everyone thinks I am a freak but hey, I just cant wait for a broody

I started when my husband got a pair of who knows what. My dogs killed them and I found some eggs. I read a little and tried to heat them up. It didn't work. I had no idea of what I was doing. Lol. Now I do. A little I guess. :)
