Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

totally agree....I had stinkers last summer!!! contaminates the whole incubator!

I find that the ring of death can appear by day 4, so I candle periodically every few days after that until day 10 to check for that, the quitters, and the infertile clear eggs. I also do a smell check at the vent of the incubator every day to make sure there's nothing rotting in there. You can smell it sometimes when an egg goes bad. I don't want any exploders!

I found a flashlight today that let me see a little bit into the marans eggs! I think I saw veining in a couple, and a blob in one

(it's day 7, and they are shipped eggs, only 7 of them.)

It is! Mine are blue marans, also. Previous hatch I got George:

Whom I sincerely hope is a female. I am really hoping for some siblings this time around!

That sounds like a great plan! I've posted some detached info in the last several pages, I'm so sorry yours came detached too

Hope your eggs come in perfect.

I also noticed that 3 of the eggs were shipped upside down. Not sure what that will mean for them.

And I think I found a phoenix egg, so going to throw her into. Chickens are so addicting.

First time incubator here and so far I have basicly a barnyard mix in my incubator I think I've read on here people call em muts anyway I'm on day 11 the 21st is hatch day started with 11 2 days later added 36 more so far I have dropped on egg it cracked open beyond repair :-( and one infertile egg have 45 eggs left full of little dancers haha that term is thanks to my 13 yo daughter who swears they dance because of her always playing music so far I'm a happy man with this little giant incubator installed a PC fan with air flow facing up no air directly on eggs :) so ready for my hatch day I swear if I only get one chick I'll be happy :)

Welcome!

Glad you joined us. 45 eggs, oh yeah...you will have more than just one chick.

Yipeeee...Hubby said I can incubate quails. So after these two...game on.

Any advice on where to get some good reading in for them? Thinking golden speckled or red coturnix. What do you think?
