Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

your from Tulare? No way! How do you like Oregon? We want to move up north so bad.

LOL, Born in Fresno, dad was a logger so we followed the work, always ending back in Tulare from the time I was 8... Left there in 86 and never looked back, my folks settled in Redding until my Dad died but I moved here when I got married almost 27 years ago
Love Love Love Oregon! The mild weather for the most part is my favorite, normally known for our rain (not so much this last year) and alittle over an hour in either direction were either at the coast or in the high country. All my family is either here or in Oklahoma now tho. The only thing that's a turn off here is the politics, very left leaning State with pockets of Conservatism (but we wont get into politics) other than that I have no complaints about Oregon...You should leave just to escape the taxes and electric bills!! LOL

It is! Mine are blue marans, also. Previous hatch I got George:

Whom I sincerely hope is a female. I am really hoping for some siblings this time around!

As if my chickens aren't spoiled enough, they now have golden nests. Within 15 minutes, they werechecking out each nest. Within an hour, I had an egg from a chicken that hasn't laid for a few weeks. Golden, sparkly, magical nests. Max helped, so now he glitters when he struts.

I just got back 2 guineas that were causing problems for my friend. They started attacking my chickens and especially my head rooster. I put the mean one in solitarty confinement over night. The next day, I let him back out to be withhis buddy. Then he attacked again. Back to solitary. I brought him in the house and gave him a manicure, he looks good in pink, and put him back outside. Then Max took over. He whooped them into shape. He played Lord of the Guineas and now they seem to be behaving.

Max as LOTG

I found a flashlight today that let me see a little bit into the marans eggs! I think I saw veining in a couple, and a blob in one

(it's day 7, and they are shipped eggs, only 7 of them.)

Day 10 wlll work better for you. :) If you can't see any better, watch the air sac. Is it getting bigger? Best thing to do with the dark eggs, is to mark the air sac when you candle. Then, you can tell if it is getting larger. If so, it is good. Will look for the air sac link.

Here is a cheat sheet sheet. Plus, an egg photo that shows marks where they should be on cehttp://www.backyardchickens.com/a/incubation-cheat-sheetrtain days.https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/incubation-cheat-sheet

What a wonderful way to wake up this morning.. Please tell Max, Hello. I see now why Max is the mascot.... I cant stop smiling.
LOTG, BBAAHAHAHAH. kick some tail feathers, Max.

Can I join? Our rooster was killed by a hawk so we decided to try to hatch out some of his eggs. We are on day 17, lockdown tomorrow! We only have two eggs left, one looks healthy and good the other is questionable :(. I'm getting so nervous now! This is my first time incubating and we are using a homemade, extremely crappy, styrofoam cooler. We've delt with extreme temp fluctuations and have to get up frequently through out the night to add or remove blankets from the incubator top. Ugh! I want this to be over! If they hatch they will be barred rock/rir crosses. There is a sligh cance one might be a barred rock/Wyandotte but I'm not sure.
