Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

I had some chicks hatch with wry neck, and all of mine looked normal either on their own or after they had some good chick starter food and water with vitamins. I read that it's caused by a deficiency of vitamin B in the parents' diet.

Thanks! I do put multivitamins in their water (not regularly like I should, but the get plenty kitchen scraps as well)

HI,
If it is wry neck.it is usually a pretty easy fix.................
I would not separate it.....the hen will not take it back.
My chick with wry neck recovered . I just had to make sure it was eating.
You may want to use search for treatment information............
I used baby vitamins.(without iron).can't remember the name.
Good Luck

Ok thanks! I have everything here, I just need to mix up the vitamins, & bring it inside to administer it. I've taken a chick from her & gave it back, with her first brood, & everything was fine. I just wasn't sure if I should keep the big boy indoors or keep him with the mama. Thanks again!

Well I might as well jump in somewhere! Currently doing my first hatch. After a coyote got all but one of my laying hens a few weeks ago,I decided to try hatching some eggs from my remaining barred rock rooster and buff orpington hen. I put 14 in on 1/15. They were laid over 16 days (14 eggs in 16 days in the dead of winter...not too shabby!) So I counted on a few being too old. We are at 7 days now and 10 candle great! 4 are clear. The good ones are flopping around like little fish in there. It's so cool! I also have a bunch of Wheaton marans in that I'm hatching for the friend who is letting me borrow an incubator. Can't see a thing in there!

I also have rabbits due on February 3. Not a newbie there, but I just got into them again after taking a break for college, so I'm excited about these litters! I have three does due through February. It's baby season!

WELCOME TO BYC ! AND TO OUR SITE HERE. SORRY ABOUT THAT DARN COYOTE! MAN, GLAD I DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT AROUND HERE. HAWKS ARE MY MAINE CONCERNE.

(acutally, he does not care, just cannot understand why I need so many breeds.............)
Hoping this will turn out better than my 0 hatch with the Silkies............
These are being shipped but about only 350 miles and the weather is decent in our part of the country............

Viola,
When I am hatching more seriously..................I put eggs in every Friday.............
Then I know, Wends days are lockdown, hatch over the weekend................
Leaves time to sterilize the hatcher before the next lockdown.
I hate just one hatch at a time...............

(two LG's one to incubate, one to hatch)
he he he!! did you buy it??
