There are no dumb questions....................

Sunday is perfect.....Good Luck

Batch #3 of my staggered hatch has started to hatch. The first 2 are out 2 days late. 4 or 5 more are pipped. looks like this hatch will be the best. I got 1/25 on batch 1, 3/24 on batch 2, & batch 3 was set on moving day just to finish filling the bator & keep eggs from rolling. There were 12 (give or take 1, I just tossed them in & forgot to count) in batch 3. Power was off at least 4 times for up to 12 hrs each time & temps got down to mid 50's at least once. Batch 1 was 6 days late. Batch 2 was 4 days late. This batch is running 2-3 days late. As you can see, vhicks can survive even against all odds. Please don't give up on your chicks just because of temp swings. I had some hatch last winter after a temp spike of 116°F.

Babies? Photos? Do you have some of those cool looking white ones..with spots?

OMG - there are over 500 posts since I last posted????? Everyone must be hatching? I will try to read some but doubt if I can do them all I will be x eyed!

Well things here are progressing and I can't believe the time has flown in. We will be going into DAY 14 tomorrow and its evening here now so we are really on the countdown to lockdown!!!!!!!!!
Added more water to the Bator this morning as it had dried up ugh hope that doesn;t do any damage. The eggs have been staying at a constant temp and I have turned them 3 times a day. I have not been panicking about them like I did with the other eggs and I have not candled them. I did try but couldn;t see anything so put it back and have not tried since. I don;t know if I will get anything at all it is going to be a surprise ! OMG if anything living or viable comes out of that incubator it will be a miricle! lol Well the distructions say on day 18 I just fill up the outer ring under the eggs with water ( inner ring is already full) And lockdown and wait. How hard can it be? OMG! I have such a bad record on hatchings! I have done nothing at all to try to get everything right this time. It either works or it doesn't - As DH says Not our eggs they are his sisters! Darn they will hatch to spite me and they will be lovely little bundles of fluff!

Oes - counting down to lockdown 5 days to go
HI Helen, Good Luck with your hatch.................

.Do you have a hygrometer?

wish my hd say something like that. But he just looks at my cage with the chick (I have them in the living room) stops for a moment and then walks away. Lol. One day asked how long they had to be with the lights. In other words when are they coming outside.
;)he hasn't put two and two together. (I have two incubators running) and collecting more eggs. Lol

That's funny. My DH has gotten used to it, and actually knows a bit about hatching eggs now. He asks things like, do you have any in lock down now? He calls me his cute little chicken lady. :)

So, been almost two days since I've been on. Lots of posts since then.

Not use to this freezing weather down here. Having a lot of extra chores for the animals to do alone. Had a couple of scares last night. Power going off and on, outside heating unit covered in ice. Luckily we have several space heaters and a generator. Ended up wrapping the incubator in towels/blankets several times. Candled tonight and 7 wigglers will be going into lockdown tomorrow. Hubby's father went into the hospital in WV, so he left before all the bad weather started. Still no progress on father-in-law yet.

Anyhow, I see a few new members...Welcome, great to have you join! Several with eggs hatching & new baby chicks ...need pics. And several getting ready for hatches or going into lockdown...fingers crossed & Good Luck!

Oh, and my cochin hatched another baby last night. What is it with my broodies hatching on the coldest nights. My silkie did the same thing earlier this month.

Oh wow, you have a lot happening. Hope that power stays on. I had the same problem with my EE's hatching. They did fine, I got 5 out of the 7 that went into lock down to hatch. Now, we woke up to around 5 inches of snow, and it's still snowing! We need it though, haven't gotten much moisture yet this year. We live in a dessert, so we need all we can get..preferably up on the mountains, so we don't have a drought.

HI,
Not much going on.day 11 for my first hatch. Will candle tonight.
Set 24.
I hope there are clears to toss...................Incubator is full. I am getting eggs from a pair of Seramas .
I have wanted to hatch their eggs for awhile now. I have three lovely eggs so far.
I'll have to post a pic of them....Little red , the roo, and Killer, the hen.........
So pretty, he is red, she is molted red.
Funny story about how killer got her name.I'll post it sometimes but don't want to be a thread hog this morning.......
Hope everyone's day is FUN!

so I am pretty bummed now, my poor single egg for hatching has a ton of odds against it. and saw at lunch that it has a saddle shaped air cell, guess it never really clicked before when I candled. have seen on some threads they pull through fine, others not so fine. guess we shall wait and see....
