Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

when they pip the wrong end they are still a couple of days from hatching- think of it this way- normally when they pip the correct end, they take a day in the air cell to breathe before piping an outer hole- the may take another day with just an outer pip, when they pip the lower end they don't get a day in the inner airsack so if you try and help them they will be bloody, and not yolk absorbed yet- the probably will need help but not right away- when the pip the wrong end I make sure the beak can breathe but try'n leave it for a bit.

I also leave it for a while when it's pipped at the wrong end. I had some pictures of one that I helped out though, because by half a day later, it wasn't any bigger a pip. When they pip on the pointy end, they will still try and turn. If they get turned a bit, and get stuck in the middle, they will suffocate.
I helped three of my BO's out this last hatch, they are doing great!

You can see the little hole where it had moved towards the middle of the egg. No other pips during that move, still just the
pip at the top of the egg. It would have run out of oxygen pretty quick.

Here it is with it's beak cleared, to hang out for a while. :)

After a few hrs. I check again, Make sure there isn't much blood, which there wasn't on this one, so pulled the head out and made sure I got the feet up front..there is another one pipped on top.

Three of them with a pip at the wrong end, ended up like this one. :)

Editing to say, when you buy shipped eggs as I do, I don't want to take any chances. So many things go wrong during shipping, and often, they need help. Those of you that have eggs to bring in from outside are soo lucky. Don't have to worry about those wonky air sacs, or fluid in the egg because of the egg being too cold..then warm..too cold..then warm. Unless..you forgot to go get them early enough out of the cold. :D.

is Java her name or her breed? :)
.LOL.. I already have an order for two dozen mixed heritage breeds, picking them up next weekend... going to save a few of hers too and add to the mix...

I am pretty sure there are a lot of people out there that help their chicks hatch, that won't say anything, because it's supposed to be tabboo..they will always say though, only as last resort. I see it as last resort when I either have had..a lot of chicks that have hatched, or pipped by the end of day 20, and nothing at all from other eggs. I get a lot of great hatches by helping some in time, but often, there are some that have already made it being internally pipped, but couldn't reach the shell, or drowned in what I call, the goopy stuff. Never have figured out what that is. But when it's there, they don't make it on their own. I've helped some that had that goopy thick stuff in there, and they made it just fine. Helping helps..me. That's me. :)

I would always help...better to have tried I think
When it comes to helping all I have to say is MAX!

He and another turkey internally pipped 5 days early. After 24 hours the other one died so I busted Max out before he died too.
