i have put three d'uccle with the serama's eggs i just got and they will be going in the bator with the serama eggs...have seen the d'uccle roo doing the deed with the one i know is laying and one of the other girls so since they may be fertile i decided to go ahead and put them in too and see if they develop and hatch

Max has tried everything to stay in the house today. I still kicked him out after he got in trouble. It's the first time he fought it. He came right in this evening and has been letting give him lots of hugs. He is back in his spot.

Apparently he did not enjoy his night out in the rain & does not wish to repeat the experience.

I have a rooster that looks just like your avatar. What breed is he? I take mine out of the carton at lock down. Mine fight so hard to get out, then fall back in and get glued to the shell.

Hi there! I'm confused as to what this rooster is. I got him and his hen on Saturday. They told me that they were both Araucanas, but then someone on here said that my hen is an EE. So I am completely lost. I've tried to do some researchers, but it seems like Araucanas, Americaunas, and EEs look the same to me. My roo, Arlo has a very nice black beard. I'll have to see if I can get a nice close up of him tomorrow.

Araucanas have no tails, lay blue eggs and can be tufted or untufted (huge whisps of feathers sticking straight out from the cheeks). Ameraucanas have tails, lay blue eggs, have blue/green legs, puffy cheeks, beards, and meet specific color pattern requirenents. Easter Eggers are any cross with a blue egg gene carrier to make a colored egg laying bird. They can be any color & can lay any color but typically shades of blue & green. EE includes off color Ameraucanas. These may be crosses of Araucana, Ameraucana, Legbar or any bird carrying a blue/green egg gene. Hatcheries often call these birds Americanas (note the spelling difference) which is why everyone gets confused.

My favorite foods are chocolate ice cream, all pizza, vienna weenies and my dinosaur gummi vitamins. If you are my mate, you will never become anyones dinner. Must be healthy. No TTDs (turkey transmitted diseases). Friendly disposition is a must.

Araucanas come in tufted & untufted. A double tufted gene is lethal so it's preferable to breed tufted to untufted.

There are a lot of opinions and arguements, that is why I posted the Clubs' websites and stated the APA standards instead of my opinion. This thread is for helping people learn so I try to give the most accurate information from recognized sources. Let the person make up their own mind. I feel that mixing colors shouldn't disqualify a chicken from it's breed but it does so that is not what I wrote. And I am aware of the double turfted problem. One of the reasons I think people should be more careful when creating a new breed. The standard calls for tufted, so breeding two that meet standards should not be harmful but it is. Still does not change the standard.

There are lots of birds that are purebred but don't meet the standard. Even when breeding tufted to tufted Araucanas you will get untufted because each parent only carries 1 tufted gene, it just results in way more lethal double genes that way. That doesn't mean that the untufted birds are not pure Araucana. It just means they are not show quality.
The same goes for off color Ameraucanas. They are still pure Ameraucanas, but not show quality because of coloring. Most classify them as EE.
