Janoel 24. INCUBATOR EXPERTS PLEASE

Ah this thing is a pile of junk. I have turned 'heat preservation power' right down to 1 and it still cooks the eggs if ambient goes over 24.5. Waste of $180 bucks right there (not to mention what I spent on the two hatches). I have just turned 'heating power' down to 1 from 9 if that doesnt work I'll rip its brains out and stick in an arduino to bend it to my will...
That really stinks! Maybe you can sell that thing on Craig's list for what it costs to buy a Hovabator! Those are much cheaper unless you get fancy with it. Sometimes simple is best. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0145O6C0S/?tag=backy-20

Thanks but I live in New Zealand where everyone likes to shaft everyone else on price. I have worked out the problems, the 240v fan the incubator uses actually generates a fair bit of heat. So even when the heating coils are off the thing still warms up when insulated. If its not insulated there is too much temp variation. I wont cell a crappy machine to someone else on principle. What I will do is replace the guts of it. The fan is just a 120mm fan so a 12V PC fan would swap in nicely. Will do that next and run it of the boards 9v supply, will blow a bit less but might work, only one way to tell. Is the next step before rebuilding the brains/firmware from an arduino/

just got a Janoel 24, on day 5... was 38.0 all the time, now I arrive and it is 38.7, did it killed the eggs? how I set it up to 38 again, candeled them yesterday and all 14 giant cochin eggs were doing ok

I
Can’t change or adjust temperature on this thing! Anybody knows how? Tried with CA but it’s not going over 37.7 and my hygrometer says 34.9
How frustrating :(

Sorry guys forgot to get back. 9v off the board didnt have enough current to drive the fan/move much air. What I ended up doing was buying a cheap 240v to 12v converter, wired than into the mains feed to drive the PC fan. Obviously mains voltage can be dangerous so know what you are doing.
Essentially my version of this incubator was crap. Heat from the standard fan overheated the eggs if I insulated the incubator. If I didnt insulate it there was up to four degrees variation in temp from the centre to the edge. I have it going okay now but only after much trial and error, tinkering and a few failed hatches.
Would not recommend anybody purchase this incubator.

@Jpat made his own and it does really well. Ask him!

iam using a janoel12 and my homemade bator right now, My homemade has had 90%+ hatch rate

The janoel iam using is my sisters and shes had 90% hatchrate on chickens, Silkies, bantys, and other poultry. For ducks its hard to keep consistent humidity, and i had to wrap it in a blanket

it takes longer to settle on its temperature afyer being opened than my home made. The janoel 12 is not worth the 120$... But a free one is worth it

I have this incubator. My first hatch was very unsuccessful. The thermometer on the incubator was off by 6 degrees!!!! So I guess I need an accurate thermometer that doesn't take up a lot of room in the bator.

Ouch :(

i use a glass of ice water to calibrate my thermometers, i use 4 and write in marker how off each one is

Thats alot of hoping and wishing to have it ruined by a bad thermometer

My janoel is dead on from factory

The eggs coast 4o bucks too. That was a dumb mistake. I have an aquarium thermometer that reads 32degrees f in ice water . Should have used that from the first place.
