Anyone have any suggestions as to where to buy a good reliable one?

I bought a few from the local pet store that we have. I calibrated the ones that read my humidity and I found that they were only 2 to 3 percent off and the one with a hundred percent accurate. I also put in two digital thermometers and added two mercury thermometers. I found that two of my thermometers read exactly the same and the other two only read a half a degree off so I am able to have a good feeling that the temperatures are reading pretty precise. So yeah you should be able to find them at any pet store.Do Know what all your settings are on your machine?

I will pick a couple of this week.

I think the only setting that I have control over is the temp. I have it set at 38 degrees.

The only other settings I have control over is my alarms for high/low temp and low humidity.

Ok I know I have control over seven different settings on mine. I know our models aren't exactly the same but I figured that you would have control over at least more than just tWo settings.

I don't think they directly control the humidity.

No not humidity that's done all with heat, water, and space. I know on mine I have to keep my temp all the way up.

I ran some tests last night.

With no water in the unit, the humidity ranged from 10-15%

1 channel filled with water, the humidity ranged from 29-32%

Both channels filled with water, the humidity ranged from 30-32%

I had the incubator in my basement, so maybe I'll move it to the first floor and see if that makes a difference. If that doesn't work, I'll try the sponge/water method and see if that will raise my humidity.

Just want to make sure my unit is doing what it is supposed to do before I start hatching eggs.

BTW I now have an automatic egg turner problem! As in, it doesn't work. It won't move at all, even if I try to move it by hand. It seems as though the motor is locked up.

Remove the turner and set it on the table. It shouldn't move by hand, but it's quite likely that a linkage is jammed. Unplug and remove the motor, test the action of the rails independently of the motor, test the motor while off the rails.

I also definitely recommend getting another hygrometer. (btw, you don't want a hydrometer - that's for testing alcohol levels lol) Where are you located? Local humidity has some effect on your incubator humidity too.

You should be able to hold the reset button to actuate the turner. You could have a bad motor. Also when the motor turns (if it turns), watch the little arm protruding from the motor to the slats in the turner. It should start and end on the sides. Not top and bottom. If its not working, try unplugging it at the connection inside the unit. Maybe its just not making good connection.

I will test the linkages, but I tried several of them yesterday, and couldn't get much movement out of them at all.

I can't remove the motor, it is riveted onto the bracket. I would have to drill out the rivets and reattach it with some little bolts or something.

Ah. Sorry. I didn't know the Janoels were built that way. My LG turners have the motor screwed on with a couple of small sheet metal screws. Are the linkages between the first and second rail removable?
