JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

You know how chicks all decide to hatch together? I like my eggs to touch each other. I don't know if they can feel hearts beating on the other side, but I know the chicks in the egg can hear the chick peeping.. I had 2 eggs in a very small incubator, one was a quitter, then the surviving egg I wanted to touch good eggs in a diff incubator so it could be encouraged. The chick hatching was one of the 2, and the other six are due on Friday the 13th.

This chicks dad was a black frizzle bantam, and the mom was a Nilla cookie colored NN bantam or a blue splash bantam.

Just cleared her shell.
and 12 hr. old

they crow that early? Well peppermint hatched Dec 13th so I guess I may keep an ear out for anything resembling a crow

I had a chick from my very first hatch that crowed at 5 days! It was the funniest thing ever.

Sorry sorry to Purpletie3 and ChickenLady2014 that your hatches didn't turn out better and for your losses. Sounds like you guys are moving to the February hatch so good luck with that and I wish you all the best.

I haven't posted in a while, got a little busy with life. My chicks are getting bigger, louder, and hungrier(is that even a word). They are feathering out and their personalities are really showing. I have a black one that pecks me every time I stick my hand in that brooder, I bet it's a roo! And then I have my black with brown face who is so sweet. It's wings feathered out from all black to black and white striped. I'm wondering if it has barred rock in it but I have no idea where the brown face comes from. I've decided if that one is a pullet and it turns out to be a nice looking girl then she is mine for sure!

Hope everyone is going to end the week on a good note! :)

Thank Renee for the kind words, I had a little white chick 2 hatches ago that it pecked me everytime I put my hand in the brooder box. Well its 6 weeks old now and it is definately a roo and he still pecks me everyday when I head out to the coop to do chores. Then I have another one that climbs up my back and tries to sit on my head (everyday) grr... It really makes doing chores fun, lol. Now I have a brooder box out in the coop with them that has the 4 silkies I hatched in it. When I'm trying to feed, water & clean up messes with the silkies, I have 18 other chicks trying to help. They're a handful, lol.

Thought this was interesting & I would share. Endangered status of chickens...

that's neat. Thanks for sharing. I think about 6 of my chicks are buttercups. I could also have buckeyes and delawares.

I ran onto it by accident and found it interesting...I know a lot of us are hatching these and maybe don't even realize how important our hatches are to the future of that bird on our planet!

So my 18 chicks went to live at the neighbors (Co owner) yesterday morning until they are ready to live outside. Just a bit ago she msgd me a picture and asked if I knew what would have happened to them! :/

There are 3 chicks with these little wounds on their backs. I have no idea why they would have this but my first thought is they have outgrown their box and are fighting for space. What are your thoughts? My poor babies! :(

Thanks for sharing Purpletie3, I have a buttercup roo right now but no hen and currently Mr. Kazoo seems to be shooting blanks. My second to last hatch I was hoping for some Buttercup mixes, but ended up with my Chantecler roo being the dad of the chicks.
