I feel like I've missed a lot! Sounds like some people are having great hatches and others are not fairing so well. I am so sorry to Gentry for the tough decision you had to make. Purpletie3 I really hope your babies start hatching For you.
My hatch is officially over. I cleaned out the incubator and oh my gosh. I knew it would stink but why didn't anyone warn me just how bad!?!? But oh well my 18 babies are totally worth it.
The 3 eggs left didn't make it, I eggtopsies them and I think 1 may have died before lockdown and the other 2 looked very close so I'm not quite sure what happened. However those 3 eggs did not end up losing enough weight before lockdown. I had 3 other eggs that did not lose enough weight and those chicks seemed to struggle a bit more to get out than the rest.
Here are some pics of my babies, I'm so in love! It's going to be super hard to not want to do this again real soon.
My polish/silkies and my black with the brown face are my most favorite babies but I am so in love with all of them! I am hoping I have lots of pullets so I am able to choose my favorites. If they are roos, I don't have a choice, I can't keep them. And whatever pullets we don't choose to keep we will probably sell! Oh how I wish I had a big enough yard to keep them all!
Go for it Renee, Join in with me---LOL. I got almost 600 eggs incubating as I type this----with 500+ chickens already. I do not want To be alone!! LOLI'm so in love! It's going to be super hard to not want to do this again real soon.
So,I woke up to the Hovabator and 1/3 orpington is out and 4 out of the 6 silkies are out. One silkie is totally zipped and stuck in the membrane...The other doing nothing. So, they must like a 5 degree difference in there.
The little Brinsea mini has one silkie out and one tying to get out. I shoved 7 silkies and 1 orpington in there for hatch. So there are like 5 eggs left one pip last night.
I am very pleased as yesterday I was so nervous about the temp swings.
At this point 6 chicks.
