JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Well, my hatch is done. I think it is safe to say the one that kicked out and bled will make it now. 5 chicks! Not the best from 18 eggs, but they are Serama from across the country so I'm far from disappointed. They are all learning to eat and drink, playing in their "sand box" like a bunch of nerds More eggs should be arriving Monday. Only 6 this time. Looking for another 6 more, but I'll probably have to stagger the hatch a little.
Very cute chicks, congrats on your hatch.

Going to join in on the January hatch a long. I set my eggs on the first, should hatch the 22 nd. 18 silkie eggs for me and 23 barnyard mix for a friend. I wanted the incubator to be full, so it would hold temps better. I am using a farmers innovator still air with a turner. We have had mixed luck with it, but most of our problems stemmed from my kids :(

I have been having some heat fluxes here.

The weather was mild then we hit a cold spot, had to warm up the house and change the incubator heat, then it warmed up again and temps got to 106, I am hoping the eggs will be okay. the temp past 10 days. temp stayed even.

sorry you are having issues. I hope your eggs are doing fine.

Thanks. at least I am getting my own fertiles.I can start right away if I want. I feel bad for people who get shipped and something goes wrong. one lady had a nice incubator with a flat lid I hear, and the cat liked it because it was nice and warm laid on top, and drove up the temps and wrecked the eggs.

Oh that stinks. Luckily my cat had really no interest in my incubator until he heard the peeping last time but he never attempted to jump onto the counter I have it on so I'm hoping he doesn't bother it this time either.

I don't have a roo (because I really like my neighbors) and so all of my eggs are shipped. I could handle the USPS pre-scrambling them and the fact that some eggs don't develop at all and that hatching at a high altitude is a real challenge. BUT what is really frosting my cupcake at present is out of the last three shipments of eggs the resultant chick has NOT been what I thought I had bought. Got a CCL that is clearly a RIR cross. Had a sex-link that was anything but. And now I have a feather-legged BLRW. Whazzup with this? Honestly, it's Amateur Hour on eBay. Yes, the eggs are less expensive than a breeder...but you get what you pay for.

Lesson learned. I will buy from BYC folks.

Just candled my 35 Trader Joe's eggs. Pulled 3 (1 clear, 2 blood rings) So now at 33. The best thing about Trader Joe's eggs (besides the price) is you can candle them in the daylight without taking them out of the trays. Love those white shells!

that's awesome. I thought about checking if our TJS has fertile eggs but it's a bit of a drive and the eggs I got were closer. Maybe I'll try them next time. Good luck. I'd love to see what you get out of them.

Cute! What is that white and black one, looks like it's wearing a vest?
