JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

My hatch results:

7 eggs set

3 not fertile
3 hatched
1 late quitter

Not great results but am thrilled with the healthy babies I have! Can't wait to try again.

Woke up this morning to 1 chick and three pips

Hatch Day is underway!

Interesting about the BLRW. I have 11 in the incubator which got VERY chilled in transit, so I don't hold out much hope for them. I have yet to have one hatch, either. The last batch of BLRW the only one that hatched was the inadvertent mix. Come to think of it, I have yet to have a purebred hatch... It seems only the crossbreeds have ever made it out of the shell at my altitude (5200 ft)

Hmmmm......

Car....Congrats on your pips!  Hopefully, the malpositioned chick can figure out how to hatch... Then comes the quandry...Assist or not assist?

Definitely no. Of all the chicks I've personally "assisted", the ones I've left totally alone this year have blown me away at what they can do. I've rarely had an assist go well. It's clearly not my forte. :gig

Very strange. I have no altitude issue here in GA.. Glad it's not just me though! It's SO weird.. They've all started out just like the rest, then growth slows significantly though they're still active at lockdown.. Then, nothing.

What kind of incubator are you using?
I switched out of using a still-air and I think all the fresh(er) air circulating has made a great difference, especially at hatch because enough oxygen is getting to the eggs (I believe this, anyway). Last batch in the still-air I had lots of Day 19 and Day 20 quitters... So close and yet so far.

Funny thing,  one of my best hatches all the eggs came from GA.... they were sex-links, though.
I'm pretty much decided that mutts do best. These EE crosses are KILLING it. I thought it was a fluke the first time, given my hatching history (all pures).. But now I wonder.
