JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I just got my shipped eggs Friday. Almost all my eggs had their air sac detached & they were cold. I want to cry...but, I put my big girl pants on and set them last night.

I have Belgium Quail D'Anvers
Speckled Hamburgss
& the CCL. & splash marans

Detached air cells are the bane of shipped eggs. They do hatch. The ones that for me don't hatch are the severely detached and damaged that an air bubble can freely travel the length of the egg. Those get tossed.

Peep...All of the Spangled hamburg do that except one lonely egg. All the other ones have partial travel...I would say 1/3 of the egg. They sat out 24 hours with no improvement.

All my detatched cells have never hatched.

But, with that being said I have a better incubator to use now.

I have the ones with 1/3 travel in the turners. I have the ones with full cell detatchment sitting idle in the incubator. I was not going to start turning them for several days... When do you start turning yours? Any suggestions?

After letting the detached air cells sit at room temp for a day, I put them in the incubator in the turner BUT do not turn on the turner for another 24 hours. Then when it's hatch time they're done in cartons upright.

1/3 travel is not too bad. When you put the egg in the carton to hatch make sure the side with the elongated bubble travel is slightly tilted up. I was talking about when you can see a bubble travel all the way to the end of the egg that it most likely is a total dud.

Darn that Postal service!

@Peep... Thanks. I have tried them so many different ways with no luck I really was looking for some more opinions here! So thanks!

...waiting 7 days to turn... no luck. Waiting 5 days to turn...no luck. Waiting 3 days to turn...no luck.

So, now I was down to just setting them in the turner...lol

I will set the ones not in the turner into the turner tonight...That's 24 hours. They are in rough shape... I am optimistically realistic...

I have 3 more sets of eggs coming next week. So, I am hoping they arrive in better shape. Although, one has been in the parcel since Wed...So, that will probably be 6 days of shipping.

:-/

@haus...get your sleep while you can! Hope you wake up to a bunch of fuzzybutts running around the incubator!

No, but I woke up to a pip and am comforted by the other wiggles, the one with the crack is showing the veins shrinking down so hopefully we will have some peeps here soon enough! Humidity is up and I'm hovering near the hovabator......grateful for the hatching company
