JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I've been away for a while but here's my update. Day 14 was Saturday, weighed and candled my eggs. 22/28 6 clears thrown out at day 10, all 22 were growing and moving. Their weights showed they were not losing enough so I decided to stop adding water. Left Sunday to fly out for my grandma's funeral on Tuesday (it was beautiful by the way, she left an amazing legacy behind with 10 kids, 26 grandkids, 64 great grandkids and I think 16 great great grandkids). Left my hubby and neighbor in charge of the eggs and tried very hard not to worry about them. I think they were in good hands. The plan was to get home mid day today(day 18) and weigh, candle, mark air cells and prepare for lockdown. Unfortunately the plane I was on got sent back due to snow where I was supposed to change plans. So now I sit here waiting in the Dallas airport tired, ready to see my kids and husband, and stressing that I may have an early pipper and I'm not even ready for lockdown yet. I won't get home till like 9pm tonight. Anyway, I'm just praying I had some strong chicks in there and I will have some hatch this weekend into the beginning of next week! I'll update again when I can. It's been a long emotional week so it may not be till I get the first 1 to hatch! Fingers crossed there is at least 1!

So sorry Renee, I did not realize that your grandma had passed. May God be with you all at this extremely difficult time. Good luck with you hatch ad well

I got this box with foam on all sides for free at a recycle place. it is a pretty good size I will see if I can make it into an incubator.I am making it like my small ones with a larger bulb. I currently have a 25 w bulb with heat shield and foil on bottom then wire, and thermometer. I am testing it for 24 hrs, currently it is 102 which is good for still air.

I never get that lucky that they pip when I am watching. I will watch til I am cross eyed...take a bathroom break and there's a pip! I think they are conspiracy chicks!!!!

Well, I have to get the Hovabator to temp and humidity. I am going to do lockdown in there tomorrow night for about 13 eggs. I also have the eggs in my mini ready for lockdown too. So, I need to decide if I am dirtying two incubators. I think I am bc I have not hatched silkies in the mini.

Should be a good week next week...!

a little progress over night.... but not as much as I had hoped for. Two black copper marans are out, two altsteirer are working on it. No action at all yet from any of the cream legbars. (sorry for the bad pic)

Hey, looks like you've got some good stuff going on in the incubator! Hope the other eggs start to pip for you!

I've been wearing out a path down the stairs to the basement for about the past 26-28 hours. Just checked on them about an hour ago...nothing. Then decided to go down and check on them again....and found one was zipping out and chirping up a storm!

My first zip...EVER!!!!! So egg-cited at my house!!!!
