Cute babies!

Gentry, I had a chick with a messed up foot, it got better on its own by week 2, cross bills get worse, plus they cannot clean themselves. I am sorry..:hugs

Thanks for hugs. I'm culling all three today; it's the right thing to do.

This was such a fear of mine doing this project and im sorry you had to do it but glad you shared your experience

Hope you have some action soon the waiting is a killer!! I've been up since 4am this morning just couldn't sleep and the night before 3 am. I'm feeling a bit weary now. I even resorted to moving a chair and cushion into the utility room so I could sit and watch the eggs!! Just candled the last egg and it has died sometime since lockdown I think. Although at lockdown there were some I did not see movement in so could have been one of them. That's incubating for you though and not all make it. Still really pleased with 13/14 for my first test batch of my own eggs. Good luck :fl

I'd say that's a great first test hatch and fertility this time of year even! Rest up so you can enjoy the peeps now ;)

I am not happy...My Hovabator must not be circulating...I have used my spot check and checked all the way down the line of eggs via access in the air hole...At one end it's 96 degrees and the other almost 101. That's a 5 degree swing... The only positive part is the silkies are at the hot end and the orpington at the cooler end.

Should I put a fan on low under the hot area. I can add water to my sponge for humidity... or even cover the colder area... There are open pips so I can't check the wiring right now.

Any ideas what the heck I can do here???

oh no that doesnt sound good.....Are you sure its not running? My circulating air hovabator was very quiet and runs at low speed not really mvoing the air like a fan would all around.....could it just have been during a heat cycle or something?
the other hovabator is a still air so I wired in a pc fan, even though its small, that is really windy and sucks the humidity out of the air in that one so Im not sure its the best time to be trying something new since theyre pipping if you cant open the thing. hope someone experienced can help you out, keep us posted

This is so typical...I can tell this will be a night of hovering over the hovabator to make sure the extremes on each end don't get too hot or too cold. I think I am more concerned about the heat end though.

Honestly, It's the first time I have moved the spot check around the hovabator. I bought the spot check with my cabinet and threw all the eggs in the cabinet. Just checked temp on the digital. Well, prayers needed for my little chicks. Maybe the hovabator has always been like that...would explain crappy winter hovabator shipped egg hatch rates.

Anyone ever hatched at 50% humidity before? Can it be done?
