JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Thanks...Still working on the Brinsea hatch. I still have two out. One pipped last night and nothing else. Another pipped when I was at class and seems to be working on making a hole.

@Renee...I have no experience in flock integration. Only with my lil guys. Good luck with that! It was never my intention to stagger this hatch. Just the round in the incubator now is the poopy eggs I was hesisitant on setting. After conferring with BYC Members I did set them. And six silkies are developed , 3 orps and some mystery eggs which happened after we found bullseyes in our bought eggs. So, I threw them in the incubator...hence, Farmer Brown's Mystery Eggs....Didn't dream they would develop after being in a cooler...16 did!

Day 18 for my silkie mix eggs, have candled, weighed & removed the turner. Out of 12 eggs, 7 are for sure living embryos, 1 I'm pretty certain has died late stage and 4 I couldn't see in the egg well enough. Just will have to wait & see on those. Tomorrow morning I will increase humidity a bit and when I see my first external pip I will up the humidity to 65-70%. I have never owned or hatched silkies, so everyone please keep your fingers crossed for me :)

Oh dear, after the longest day ever, my first pip is right in the middle of the egg! I have the eggs in cartons, I wonder if I should put that one sideways instead. Hrmmm hrmm hrmmm :/
I wouldn't start to worry about it yet! I had mine in the egg carton and had one pip on the wrong end... didn't even know it was pipped until it was half way zipped and I could finally see it above the egg carton. It made its way out of the egg rather quickly after that. I think the egg carton probably helped give it a little leverage to push off from whereas if it was laying on its side it may not have been able to push the top off.
Good luck!

Good luck ChickenLady! I have silkies hatching right now...I love them! So cute!

I always wanted to be one of those people who were so lucky to wake up to an incubator with chirping fuzzybutts in it...That was this morning when two late chicks in the Brinsea made their entrance on day 22. (Day 23 starts this eve) So, I guess the key to that is to set your eggs before bedtime. There are four little bulldozers running roughshot in the little brinsea mini right now! Which btw totally ran out of water yesterday. SO, I remembered my mom giving me steam baths...so, I made a tent and gave them 3 steam baths being careful to monitor the effect on the heat in there...no issues. i saw some condensation on the sides so I know it must have been somewhat effective!

I still have one stuck in it's shell. It has been pipped for two days with it's beak out. Agonizing to just watch and not be able to open the lid.

Apparently, I have some leg issues with a couple of the silkies...so, they are going to need something done about them. But, since I have not even had a cup of tea yet I will hold off on that until I am fully awake. I just pray I have another orpington hatch because that little chick is rather large compared to the silkies...

Good luck Purpletie3, praying that all is well with your little chickies.
