JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Anyone have Orpington experience? There's one on day 23 in the incubator. I started to help it and noticed it was still vascular...Which have receeded but, not enough. Are they typically later hatchers? I hatched another one in the other incubator but he hatched 3 days ago.
This last batch was late, dont worry yet....if you see the neck spasms consistantly and hear distress but no change then maybe check again but its prob just a late one like my last marans/orp egg Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk HD

I have hatches hundreds of yellow buff orpington's in the last few months, but they all hatch on time. Have the other chicks in the same incubator hatched or are all the eggs on day 23? If All the others in the same bator hatched and this one is on day 23---"I" would break it out/help!

Thanks PD...Oddly enough I had cleared his breathing area because he pipped mid egg and I thought he was dead. Well, when I put antibiotic on his liner it still looked too vascular to go any further. I put him back in a wet papertowel...and checked on him all the time. Bedtime was about 9 hours later and his veins looked good...he was movin around and I decided to let him rest for the night and I would crack him out around 5 am when I got up. Well, I heard some loud chirping around 3 am and i found him already hatched out! So, he did it on his own. He was the only orp chick that I had with some silkies in the mini. The silkies started hatching right at 21 days.

Good, you might try your next hatch 1/2 degree higher than this. I feel your thermometer if off a little.

I didn't check the factory pre set on this ...it was supposed to be 99.5
I just got a factory pre-set thermostat (99.5) and it was 2 degree's off--low--would have caused my eggs to be almost 103---I had to re-calibrate it. If all the eggs seem to be hatching late then I would adjust some for the next hatch. Bantams eggs set with larger eggs always seem to hatch for me---early by a day or so. If "I" was just hatching bantam eggs I would lower my normal temp a little to get them to hatch late day 20/early day 21.(seems yours is already set for them) The only bantam eggs I have been hatching are silkies, but I put some polish in the last set---I will see how they do.

That's half the battle with this incubation art....you really need to have accurate equipment. And finding it is like looking for a diamond in the rough....
