Any opinions.... on how often is too often to turn your eggs?
Is there a minimum number of hours I should wait between turns?
TIA

I love that idea!
I wonder about keeping small water bottles in there in my future.... Might do it from the beginning if there's room instead of trying to worry about it in that instant. Do you think one would work better than the other? Rock verses water bottle?
And then would you just cover it with more blankets as well, until the power came back on? I can't believe what a difference they made in getting my bator to the right temp! Although, it does make total sense.
Hubby said they lost power at work last night and he had to take the long way home due to a downed tree. And I was like oh no, did we... but realized my stove clock would be blinking. So we were safe this time.
And getting any contractor to show up and do a good job installing our generator in our area is why I haven't had it done yet.Hopefully before the next years storm season.

BYC and the community here is a huge blessing in my life and that of my flock as well!![]()
I set 6 eggs, 4 buff orpingtons, a black austrolorp and a silver penciled rock on 12/31 (due 1/21). 5 went into lockdown on Thurs (day 19) and 1 pipped today on day 22. I was certain that 4 were viable at lockdown, and 1 was iffy so I left it in there (it looked less developed than the rest but I still thought I saw movement). My pip is chirping away but hasn't made any progress for about 7 hours. I can barely stand the suspense! It pipped on the side instead of on the end, do you think it will have trouble getting out?

I wish I had a camera too! It pipped this morning and hasn't changed in about 12 hrs. I have to work tomorrow so I hope I wake up to a chick and don't have to wait till I get home from work.I don't think so! Looks like a nice healthy pip to me! Both of my pips under my broody are on the sides, not the ends... I think that's normal... I haven't had any progress all day under my broody just 2 pipped eggs all day, they are due tomorrow. Hope to wake up to some babies and that I don't end up sleeping in the coop! Wish I had a nest cam.
