January 2020 Hatch along

Pics
I still have 16 days :thi had lots of great veins though yesterday when I candled with my new flashlight. 2000 lumens really let's you see everything.

I put an egg in from my flock and no idea who even laid it. I'm hoping it's the Polish :D She's such a pretty bird. She's been hanging with HeiHei my new silver sebright rooster.

First batch of eggs has arrived :) going in the incubator tomorrow morning.

Love the mix this time. Was supposed to get 15, I think she miscounted... zero complaints.

Golden and Silver Spitzhauben, Isbars, Barbezieux, Swedish Flower Hens, Crested Cream Legbars, Blue Laced Red Wayandottes

Who will hatch?!

I recognize the writing and that packing system LOL

Out of all the people I have had ship me eggs, from elaborate to complex This system that Foxfire farms uses has always given me the highest hatch rates. I wonder if I can get Charmin to make a new commercial LOL

We had 4 Ayam Ketawa (Laughing Chickens) hatch yesterday. Can’t believe I’m saying this out loud, but fingers crossed that a couple are cockerels!

Stats from the hatch:
  • 12 eggs shipped from Greenfire
  • 8 developed
  • 8 looked healthy at lockdown
  • 4 hatched
  • 4 DIS
The DIS were fully formed, but they had some liquid in with them. Not sure what happened. Maybe our humidity was too low during incubation. Or maybe shipped eggs are just screwy.

Oh my they’re the CUTEST chicks!!!! Congrats!!!!

I vote for shipped eggs are just wonky. I think things can go really wrong when they need to start absorbing the yolk sometimes, and we have no idea what’s happening in there.

sorry about the DIS and crossing my fingers for cockerels!!!!!

Little fluffy butts...

50% seems to be the number for shipped eggs. Even emus. Foxfire is the only place I’ll buy eggs from at this point. Almost got lucky and was going to pick the next batch up from them directly today. New truck deal went sour, darn it, not driving to Idaho....
