Oh, and often times in the beginning, a very large blood vessel developing, can be mistaken as a blood ring because it is stretching out about half way around the egg. Best wait for other tell tell signs of it being a bad egg. No air sac by day 8..or movement is a good sign. Well, bad sign.

I agree with this whole heartily. There is a stage where normal development appears very much like a blood ring. Especially to those unfamiliar with candling and hatching. I made that mistake my first round of chicks. Cracked a healthy developing egg Promised myself never again.

Day 14 over here. Just one week left! I checked my 5 remaining eggs for air cell development. 4 look perfect and 1 outlier with a slightly smaller cell. That's pretty much it until lock down. I'm planning on hatching upright. I've done it once before and got my best results from shipped eggs. Hoping for a repeat and 5 healthy Marans chicks.

i think i might us a heating pad in the brooder when the chicks hatch but i dont know how

do i put shavings over it

If anyone hasn't chipped in on this yet, theres a way to make a cave out of a heating pad that has proven useful for several people. I'm planning on trying it with this hatch. I'm on day 6 and it has taken every ounce of self control to not check on them constantly other than to verify temp and humidity. I'm going out of my mind. I can wait to candle tomorrow night.

the waiting is why I started on BYC.... something to do instead of looking at the eggs. lol Now i am addicted to reading thru the threads and gleaning info from knowledgeable members.

I’m buying more polish chicks in March. Like I’d say 10-12 they are absolutely gorgeous and I fell in love with them.
