I was surprised to see so many eggs due in these last days of January. Keep it rolling! Happy hatching!

kathyinmo: 1 out & zipping & more to come, those should be real pretty & interesting chicks.

nhnanna: Beautiful Frizzle x Silkie chicks you’ve got there.

chicken stalker: 12 out & more pips from our “professional bator stalker” ! Wonder how that title would look on a resume!

Pandora Taylor: Has 3 sets going. Will watch for your posts as the egg groups progress to hatch day. Best wishes!

petrelline: 8 good chickies on your first ever hatch! Yes, it can be a roller coaster; us ”hatchers” are a brave, caring & persevering bunch.

Cornychick: Had a Wednesday lockdown, so we’ll be hearing from you pretty soon. Hope the weather holds for you. If needed, maybe use jars & jugs of hot water, blankets & those little pocket hand warmer “heat bags” (that smash to create heat). Have heard of people putting in a smooth clean rock that holds heat for if the power goes off.

Soaring Chicks: Sooooo happy for you too! One chick is out & more to come. For peeping, they can peep/chirp the day before. For piping (pip a hole in the shell), I had one go 12 hrs. For zipping, that can take several hours too.

77 horses: You’ve got your chick, Ivory. I have a feeling that chick will be a world traveler, but keep it warm at 95 degrees F 1 wk, then decrease 5 degrees each week (considering the weather). Sometimes they come out of the egg running, but often they need a lot of rest like babies, with short times up, then sleep again; they usually look stronger at the end of the day or the next. Happy trails to you!

hcammack: Go chickies. How nice you’ve got someone looking out for you while away. Yesterday, I thought of how nice it would be to have a remote camera going for when I’m at work with nobody home.

Madcap621: “Smiley Oscar” it is!

Thanks savthefavs.
I have a quick question.
Do you have to be certified or npip tested to ship eggs?
I was just asked and I have never shipped eggs so I didn't know what to say.
I have gotten alot of shipped eggs the last few years but only once did I get a paper saying they were npip.

SO FAR 1 blue SILKIE
2 brown leghorn/TURKENS
& 1 i'm not sure about yet
& more coming
& lots more in the other bator for JAN!
I would post pics but I guess I'm slow cause I cant figure it out...lol

I had 21 eggs at start date threw two out on day 13 and have 18 little wyandottes pipping and 14 are all ready out of bator and in brooder. Four blrw,5 BBS wynies and 9 buff columbian project chicks. It's day 21 today for me today and this is my first hatch with a bator. One egg might hatch yet it's dark inside but no activity of hatching. Mike

I ended up going home instead of going to the gym... I just couldn't wait any longer! I didn't have another hatch until 8:30 this morning, a little white silkie that is happily running around. I had another white silkie hatch just a few minutes ago with a curled foot. I'll have to see once it comes out of the bator if it can be fixed with a shoe. I really hope so. It seems to be taking a long time between chicks, it is now day 22 (as of an hour ago). I still have 23 eggs waiting.

Congratulations on the hatches everyone!

I am sorry for the losses some have had, that's hard.

Now I have to figure out how long until I risk opening up the lid and pulling out the hatched chicks. The first has been in for 28 hours now.

Well I quickly grabbed out 13 chicks and put them in the brooder.
10 wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas and 3 of my project chicks

Whats left in the bator...
1 wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucana chick...needs to finish drying.
1 pipped project egg
2 pipped wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas
2 unpipped wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas

I'm going to bed and hopefully I'll wake to a bator full of chicks

Thanks savthefavs

I have one more pipping. The one I was worried about is making little attempts to zip. Hoping for the other 5 to start pipping. 1CM to hatch on 31 of Jan.

nhanna: All I know is that I've rcv'd eggs from breeders who certify & from those that don't. I know that some people will only buy from a breeder that has the NPIP tested certification, they will not bring anything on to their property without it. Don't exactly know all of the reasons, but may be because the problem is prevelant in the area or State, they do the same testing for their flock, or they are just particular. The USPS shipper does not require it. So, it's on an individual basis.

Can someone else shed some light on this subject?

Karrie13: Congrats on your chicks out! I know that in my last hatch, two chicks were over a day apart & it made me nervous; so I kept an eye on him. But, then I remembered reading that they can go 2-3 days without food & water. So, you must decide, considering your 23 eggs still waiting & the humidity drop that could cause "shrink wrapped" chicks. Sorry, that was probably no help at all. Darn! Good luck! Let us know how it all comes out.

ConservaChick: Wonderful! 3 chicks & more to come. You post got me singing that song.

Marlin: 2 pips, oh boy!

flgardengirl: A pip on a project lav orp egg, great! Gotta get me a project!

Please post pics everyone! 2 more days left in January! Go chickies, go!

My Jan. hatch is done, but still hanging in here doing cheers & crossing fingers for you all; so are others. Happy hatching!
