Thanks for answering. When I read your post I had this awful feeling, cause I was there with you last night when your chick pipped. But I had to stay at my daughter's until she got home, the DGDs are too young to leave alone........................... Then came home to above. I have decided to help her. She is struggling and seems to be tiring. I am pretty sure all of the other eggs are gonners, and have been. Was just trying to give them every chance.

mutt chicks do turn out to be some of the best chickens:)

Well this morning I am up to 4 chicks. So far the first one is the only naked neck, but all 4 are blue. That means they are all cochin X showgirl most likely. My little d'uccle egss look the same as the cochin eggs so I am never sure.

Madcap - make him cardboard booties. If you do it now they will straighten out in a matter of days. There are several threads on here for how to make them. I have made them more than once with good success - as long as you do it in the first few days. The longer you wait the longer they have to wear them.

With your humidity so low that second one is probably stuck in the shell. That is why the first one is sticky. The sticky will wear off the first one, so don't worry about that for now. I personally would probably interfer at this point.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Gotta leave again in a few minutes for an hour or so. The GOOD news is that Turvy is still alive, BUT her feet are all curled under too. I have pics but the other puter is still on blitz and I can't download my camera to this one. I put them together this morning so they could keep each other company. Will make them both chick shoes when I get home.

Well, I had three chicks on monday, three chicks last night and I had no more pips or peeps and I figured that was the end of it. But I went down this morning to check on things this morning and finish setting up the brooder and there was a storm of peeping in the bator, and voila -- SEVEN chicks. And one more pip!

One of my chicks from last night is sticky like madcap's -- or rather, she was, but now the stick has dried and hardened down, poor thing. Should I be doing anything to clean this one or will she be OK?

madcap, I'm sorry about the toes on your silkie -- I've seen lots of pics of chicks with toe boots on here and they seem to do just fine.

I'm now up to 8 chicks and one of them is a boy

They are all supposed to be girls

My cuckoo eggs will throw all sex-link chicks and barred = boy, solid = girl. This guy is a wonderful silver color but has the spot on his head indicating barring.

I have lots baby quail running around this morning. When I left this morning, I had about a 60% hatch. I am gonna call that good for shipped eggs. I moved the chicks to the brooder, boosted humidity again and we will see if anymore hatch today. Tonight, the majority of my chicken eggs will be going into lockdown. Good luck everyone!
