january hatch-a-long

as many of you have probably seen, my december hatch is complete! of 8 that went into lockdown, 7 successful hatch. 1 was not in good position and we assisted to prevent suffocation/drowning, but it had not yet absorbed all the yolk and did not survive. once the final 4 are ready to go to the brooder I will commence with clean-up and label quail eggs to set tomorrow morning!

Oh wow, my turkeys & quailies are due about the same date!

Can you all please remind me not to touch the damn incubator :rant these birds can hatch just fine without my interference!!:barnie
yes that part of hatching is definitely the hardest to control! I think that was the main difference in my december hatch compared to others....I was more hands off up until the end. this round I am definitely going to have a spray bottle ready for remaining eggs when transferring chicks.

when I checked the babies last night all seemed well but this morning my little RIR chick was on the verge of death. not sure what the problem is other than he was still one of the weakest when I moved to brooder. I scooped him up and have him back on the heating pad. I’m going to tractor supply today for feed, shavings etc so also picking up some sav a chick or nutridrench to give him extra tlc but not sure the little guy is going to survive

update....little red is still inside with me on heating pad. he’s very vocal, has been drinking and has pooped at least 3 times! probably keeping him inside overnight and putting him back in with the other chicks tomorrow. the other 6 are still huddling together under the light and look to be doing well so far.

I love good news

Since I really have nothing to post in the January hatch because its the long slow boring first ten days I thought I would show what has become of my December hatch. DSCN3954.JPG DSCN3955.JPG DSCN3956.JPG DSCN3957.JPG DSCN3958.JPG
and looking at the empty feeders in the photo I see I have a job to do.

Oops I meant this for the December Hatch a long and I posted it here... oh well the same people are going to see it.
