Hey my waterer just went berserk on me too.:he

:hugs
just when I thought I was doing everything right too!! but all the craziness aside I can’t wait to get some good pics! even with the problems, the colors of these guys are gorgeous!!! If you are thinking of adding some color variation to your flock, you should definitely consider getting some of these eggs!! I got a 60% hatch rate overall and 78% hatch of the ones that made it to lockdown. the deformities and death are all on me and my incubator.

I just came home from being gone a few hours and and saw that all seven of my baby quail had gotten soaked in the water and one was dead. The baby quail are warming up in the incubator now with another one that just hatched. @muddy75 do you have any tips on helping the baby quail warm up or should I just leave them be. I hear one baby quail chirping alot.
My worst one I massaged and stimulated next to a hairdryer until he was responsive and then put him in the bator. they weren’t too happy about going back in there but best way to fluff them back up quickly! I just transferred them back on the heating pad into the quail pile! my thermometer is reading about 100 degrees or so on the pad and they are all sleeping

What's with all the water problems today.

:barnie:barnie
I better go check on my babies again now before I crash.
Shoot I'm probably going to be waking to check on the dummies every hour all night...just to be sure.:barnie

Hatching eggs had made me feel less strange for keeping a hairdryer on hand for the pets. My cockatiel had a run in with a fly strip several years back. Dawn dish soap got it out. An hour later he fell off his perch. I was frantic and borrowed a hairdryer for him and watmed him up. He lived, and since then I've kept one on hand for pets. My friends think it's weird!! (All pet ER kits should include one as far as I'm concerned)

My eggs will be 7 days Saturday. Reading all the horror stories of shipped eggs is scaring me a bit. I can keep the heat the same, but the humidity is a nightmare. Fingers crossed *something* hatches! It's my first batch, so it's a learning curve. And yet my Finch egg hatched fine and lived for a month with only one foot.

I have this weird brain that let's real life "leak" into my dreams. As a result I keep dreaming of baby chickens. Now I'm more excited than the kids. Hatch already, I need to name you! I hate waiting. They are going to be sick of heating me coo at them by the time they're born.

please excuse the messy brooder....almost time for cleaning. you can see my little froggie in a couple of the pics. only little splay that hasn’t normalized yet. I attempted to make a chick chair and a hair-tie hobble but he just wiggles out of both. I don’t have the heart to cull him because he’s so alert and perfect in every other way. so just trying to make him as comfortable as possible and see if I can figure out a better solution. the chick in the first pic in my hand is one that pipped wrong.

Omg too cute!!
Do you have any vet wrap or the human wrap that sticks to itself? I made a hobble with some small cuts of that stuff. Since it sticks to itself, but not their skin, it worked really well. I wrapped around the legs, then wrapped another small strip vertically around the section between the legs. That stuff is a life saver on feather legged breeds especially.
