What kind of Quail are you hatching? I got 3 Buttons due the 14th!
8 Buttons due the 11th and then 4 more due the 12th and then 3 chicken eggs on the 17th.

I have jumbo xld Pharoah, orignal jumbo Texas A&M, and Italian Speckled

I've really wanted to hatch a few Coturnix quail sometime, but I'm afraid I'll have to stick w/ the buttons.

I've got Texas A&M and Tuxedo Coturnix due the 14th, 16th and 17th! I couldn't ever tame my button's, I wish I could lol I've got a tuxedo hen that lets me pick her up and pet her. They are a whole lot docile compared to my buttons. lol

I'm not having any luck with my buttons.I have had them for a couple months now and have gotten maybe a dozen eggs.I have 22 buttons total. 10 or 11 females.16 were just getting about laying age and 6 were only about 2-3 weeks when I got them. I got an egg a day for the first couple days, then a long stretch of nothing.then about 6 then nothing...then about 4-5 and again nothing....

Do you have 14+ hours of light to get them laying eggs?

well, i just now put 10 of my BCM eggs into lockdown. i had made the egg carton ready cuz i was gonna use the egg carton method for hatching....but i changed my mind at the last minute. i was too scared to try it. i know some love it, and some hate it. i was afraid the chick may pip parallel to the actual carton and find it hard to get out. i was gonna set them in the carton on their sides, which kinda left them suspended slightly above the floor of the bator, being held up by their pointy and blunt end of the egg, well, then i was afraid that would cause enough pressure where they couldn't pop the top. SO....i took 3 dishrags and made 3 lil' rows and put them on their sides, with the biggest part of their air cells facing up (i candled them lastnight and traced their air cells with a pencil). hope this helps them stay stable if a chick wants to play soccer with the other eggs. I'll put my other 2 batches into lockdown tomorrow. and i may try the egg cartons with them, just to see which i like better.

Oh, and Happy New Year all!!!!

9 black and 3 blue splash silkies went into the incubator on 1/1/11. Our first hatch, temp of 100 deg and 45% humidity..... Looking to a 1/18 lockdown, 1/21 hatch date!

This is our first batch, does everyone get so nervous and worried on their first hatch? All I want to do is sit there and watch the displays and listen to the egg turner going......... I am so excited I could lay an egg!!!

Have 16 in Lockdown right now that are due 1/5/2011. I have found in this hatch that humidity really plays a role in the bantam eggs developing. Of 9 silkie eggs, 2 were infertile, and only 4 developed into Lockdown. At the same humidity (35-40%) of the 15 Turken eggs i received, only 1 was infertile, and 2 were quitters. I have 12 in Lockdown and are due to hatch. I dont think these bantam eggs really match well with the rest of my eggs.

Happy hatching all!!

Wish I knew someone around home I could talk to about chickens. I am all alone here in this.

Hello, I ordered a dozen eggs that didin't arrive so the breeder sent me another dozen. I knew she was sending them so ordered a dozen from someone else thinking they might arrive on the same day or so. The first dozen that was lost in the mail arrived and even though it had been a couple of weeks me and the breeder thought I should try them as I might get lucky. The next day the replacement arrived, and the next day the other dozen arrived. So I set one dozen in the incubator, then the next day another dozen and so on. I have 3 dozen all went in a day apart. tonight ( as they went in at night) will make day 20. my question is do I take all the eggs out of the egg turner today? It is day 19 and 18 for the other two dozen. Should I turn the other dozen by hand for one more day? The biggest question if I take the egg turner out and place them all on the floor of the incubator ( wich is what I think I need to do, Will it hurt the chicks from the last dozen to remove chicks from the first dozen after they have been hatched for 24 hours by opening the bator? Sorry this is so long and thanks for any quick responses.

Anyway it looks like we are all going to have jan babies:p
