Hey all,
Day 10 for us and we did our first candling. Looking good so far. We had to pull 4 of 10 of our Japanese bantam eggs for being clear (not real surprised a couple were in the fridge), also pulled 1 of 6 EE eggs for being clear. The BLRW's started with 13 and we have 3 with a blood ring that looks like they may not be good, and 1 clear. Tossed the clear, returned the blood rings but suspect they are no good. So 9 BLRW look to be developing. We also had 7 lavender orpingtons and one of those was clear. So, all back in the bator and will leave them alone until day 18. I think that's a great start so far! Can't wait to see these little guys.
Hubby has been looking at the brooders on here and will start building soon!!
One question, we have the eggs pointy end down in the bator. Do you leave them like this for hatch or do you lay them on their side??
I already ordered Marans and Ameraucana from Whitmore to hatch in March. I think I may be out of control!

Are you hatching in cartons? Folks who do (I'm not one of them) leave them in the carton, from what I've read. If they are in a turner, you'd remove them and place them on their sides on Day 18.
Speckled Hen,
we have dividers that can be removed and they are currently keeping the eggs upright, pointy end down. Was considering the egg cartons, but was also thinking we might just turn them on thier side. Is either way good? Thanks for the feedback! Stacy
