It's hard to not get attached...I always do.

Roxannemc -- I'm so sorry your little one didn't make it, you gave it the best week it could ever have though.

We are in lock down! The egg that had fallen on the others & gotten it's shell cracked on one side is still going!!!!! Today I carefully peeled off the electrical tape so that way it would be a lot easier to hatch & I thought hey why not see now if it's alive. Held it to my ear for a bit & BOOM "click" "click" "click" came from it!!!

I am amazed that it made it till now, I just hope everything is okay & they all do good hatching - already have everything ready near the bator to help any distressed chicks out

Wow that 18 days went by quick!!! So cool about the taped egg. Now I have another method besides wax to seal an egg.

Yay!!!

I go into lockdown with my Araucana eggs on Friday too. Then Sunday my BRocks go into lockdown ,Tuesday for my SFH and Serama, and then next Friday my Orps go. I am going to be a hatching fool the following 2 weeks. I set 7 of my Blue Rock pullet eggs last Thursday night and I candled them yesterday and all 7 are fertile!!! Have collected 12 more eggs since then and those are being set on Thursday. I can't wait to see the chicks that hatch from them. I was told I could get blue, black, barred and splash Rocks.

Ok I need some help if its cold outside and my chickens are laying eggs would those eggs be ok to hatch??
Umm, I think so. Some people have had eggs be in the refrigerator and still hatch when they incubated them. It is quite possible, but the percentage of fertile eggs might be lower than if they were in warmer weather.

They can be cold but not frozen then they will die
.Even very cold out if they dont get down internally to 32 or so they can be ok but true some wlll probably not hatch if it gets below 55..

Brook Yeah the bad part of hatching the ones that dont make it.

That Laced in the signature is so pretty .Wish i had one
Did you create that from your BRs?.
Well you will be busy for sure !!! .Good luck on all the coming babies to you and to everyone hathicng now.

I just had my first hatch of the year, they were mystery eggs, came from a mixed flock. The roosters in that flock are a silver Seabright and two of my funky Frizzles. They all came out with feathered legs so I am hoping these mutts will be frizzled Easter eggers! (The only eggs that ended up being fertile we're the blue and green ones.)

Yes you can try hatching them. Just make sure to collect eggs a few times a day so that they do not get too cold. Frozen eggs will not hatch. If you do collect the eggs make sure to bring them to room temp. before putting them in the bator. You want to warm them up gradually.
