Japanese Bantam Thread!

i number the eggs and write down the date in an "egg log" (im OCD) so this egg was laid on the 16th at 10 am lol. I have a cheat sheet for candling that shows what the egg should look like day by day and looking at this one its 5 days today. i

I write the date on my eggs, and write how many I get on my kitchen calendar. Not quite down to the hour though! lol

Only one egg? I was thinking there were a few under her.

Some of you may remember a page or two back I posted about having j eggs from eBay and most looked unhatchable due to complete air cell detachment. Well most eggs didn't develop, a few died of blood ring a week or so in. And two made it to maturity.

Unfortunately one of the chicks in the larger egg was positionsed backwards and the yolk positioned toward the air cell. I tried to save that chick but I think he or she was doomed from the start

a single egg made it. It was the smallest egg out of all 9 eggs. I was able to assist hatch successfully as I wasn't sure if the chick would have issues hatching with the air cell being larger than half of the shell.

Meet fujiko, my Little japa bantam :) I think it is a hen because of the wing feathers but I'm no expert. She weighed a bit more than a half an ounce.

Hi All, I am new here and thought I would introduce myself. We live in Tampa,FL and last fall we got our daughter some Jap Bantams (blk tailed wht and whites) off of Craigslist. They have become quite the family members. We took one of the blk tailed pullets to the FL State Fair Open show this past week and was awarded BB. My daughter was very excited and started her show career off with a bang.
