Lol :)
Mine used to eat fig beetles whenever they could catch them, but I never fed them that many, and I'm dying to know if japanese beetles are toxic in large amounts. Also by the way, I thought my chickens had coccidosis, they were acting like yours, still walking but lethargic, two died despite corrid dosing, then I found a huge mite infestation in the walls of my coop, so I dismantled and sprayed with permytheryn (spelling?) And the deaths stopped, they are running around now with lots of energy.

The walls of my coop are just one sheet of plywood. Suggestions? Also, did your birds have runny poop?

Yes, my birds had runny, bloody poop, which is why I was treating for coccidosis, but its possible that the stress from the mites may have made mine succeptable to coccidosis.

The mites can be hidimg INSIDE the plywood, btw. Go out at night with a flashlight and sheet of white paper, wipe the paper under the roost and look for red spots.

I'll look into this. Is what you used available generally anywhere or did you have to look some place special? My chickens poop isn't so much bloody as it is green and it looks like guts tbh.

Looks like this thread is being side lined by other topics. Hard to keep up with it in such circumstances with OP and issue with sick birds/Japanese beetles.

I hand collect Japanese beetles for my birds. They get about 1/2 cup to 1.5 cups at a time. I do dump beetles out of my beetle trap bags. HOWEVER, if the bag does not get dumped EVERY DAY, the beetles will get stinky and start to rot inside the bag. IMO, this is a perfect opportunity for the birds to get sick. Not from the abundance of the beetles, but from eating stinky rotting dead ones. If it's been rainy, and the bag contents smell yucky, I dump them in the compost and do not feed them. When I do dump them, I put them in a bucket of water so the beetles will not be so apt to fly away. The birds love going bobbing for beetles. You can find a pic of my hand trap at the bottom of my BYC interview. It consists of an ammonia bottle, with zip lock bag at the bottom of the "funnel". I place the funnel under a plant loaded with JB, and then use a stick to rap the top of the funnel. The bugs go into defensive mode and drop into the funnel, falling into the collection bag.

Thank you!
