Hi ChicknDaddy!

If you cross a mottled bird to a black bird what do you get?

I can only tell you what I got when I crossed mottled with blue (my crosses were mottled Japanese and mottled Cochins with blue Silkie. Black x mottled should give similar results, but all blacks, no blues).
The males were black or blue (some with straw/gold in their hackles and/or saddles).
The females were black or blue.
A very few from the cross had tiny flecks of mottling showing.

From what I understand, if you cross the first generation (mott x black) back to a mottled, those chicks will be mottled.

I think a mottled Giant would be absolutely worthwhile and stunning.

I'm really more interested in a Blue Java. Like I said, the Mottled Jersey Giant was a total after-thought...lol But hey, more people will probably like a Mottled Giant before they are interested in a Blue Java. This will take a while before I have the means to start working on this project. And even if the public isn't super interested in them, I will probably try to do the crosses anyway.

Wow, just realized someone had replied to this. Currently I am living in town and do not have the means to keep a breeding flock of chickens, right now. I am stockpiling info and ideas in the hopes that if and when I can start this project it will go smoothly.
