Jersey giant & egg binding

We just lost a 8 month old jersey giant hen she was egg bound and didn’t make it. As I was trying to help her, I noticed that her vent was abnormally small. Smaller than what our bantam silkie has! It was actually hard to even find under her feathers. I’ve never seen anything like it and it is no wonder she had this problem.

She was from our first set of jersey giants and we love how pretty and good natured they are...but before we continue with this breed I want to Make sure this small vent thing isn’t a breed issue.

Anyone know if this is a genetic problem with the breed or if she was just unlucky?

Did you do a necropsy find an egg stuck inside? How long did she seem egg bound? Do you provide oyster shell in a separate container to help lay eggs? Had she ever laid an egg before? I hope others with a similar problem can help you. So sorry for your loss.
