Hi! I'm having a problem with a Jersey Giant boy 'going down' on his hocks. He acts like they have weak legs for his body and I wonder if they (JG)might need feeding differently at 'some stage' (less protein to slow them down or more at another stage).
This particular boy is just about 11 months and as big as his father and heavier. His legs bother him to the point that some days he is mostly down on his hocks and I noticed his pinkie-toes stay swollen. He seems to be healthy otherwise.
Any insight or advice?
Thanks!

A Giant really starts to put their weight on between 1-2 years old. The first year they build their "frame". There is definetly something going on with him. He should not be sitting on his hocks at all. Our boys are huge and still run and chase the girls. I wonder if he was injured somehow? like flying down from a perch or something? Good luck !

I wonder if it could be a vitamin deficiency. I would try giving him some PolyViSol (Enfamil brand infant) vitamins, about 8 drops a day for a week, and see if it helps. Might be worth a try. If it is neurological, Vitamin B and E could help. I would give a Vitamin E (squirt the oil from a human capsule onto food) and a Vitamin B complex tablet each day. If you think he needs extra protein, try giving him the yolk of a boiled egg each day.

Sound kinda like a deficiency in Manganese or a B vitamin deficiency...
(Biotin, Choline, Folic acid, nicotinic or pyridoxine)
